Chiefs have mixed history when starting 2-0

Chiefs have mixed history when starting 2-0

The start of something good?
Teams that have started 2-0 have made the playoffs 64.1 percent of the time since the NFL expanded its postseason format to 12 entrants. Since 1966, the Chiefs have done that 50 percent of the time — six of 12. And when they did make the playoffs, they lost their first game except in the 1969 season, when they won Super Bowl IV.

So, according to this you have a 50% chance of either winning the Super Bowl or losing in the 1st round of the playoffs.

What about 3-0?

BigChiefFan 09-22-2010 09:15 AM

Mixed? I'd say besides the Super Bowl visits, this team has been abyssmal in the playoffs.

The biggest thing that jumps out to me is 50% of the time making the playoffs.
I don't know how other teams have done but I am willing to guess that other teams that start 2-0 make the playoffs way more than 1/2 the time.

I think they said during the broadcast that 58% of teams starting 2-0 make the playoffs.

I thought it was 84% they said but I remember a lot of numbers tossed out.
History means more to us fans than players. When we were getting our heart ripped out by playoff loses they couldn't name 3 kc players on those teams if they were alive when it happened.
To me the 2nd round loses after a bye are still a 1 and done.

So one way to look at historically what 2-0 means to the cheifs.Broken down in 1/6 th's

3/6 half the time they DON"T make the playoffs.

2/6 1 and done

1/6 Be in the super bowl

But I still say history means way more to fans than current players.
