A mock to kill some time.
Figured that's why this forum exists.
Some statements: 1. Hali, Carr, Edwards, Shaun Smith are resigned. 2. Wiegmann decides on another year. 3. This mock is more what I'd do for the team, less what Pioli would do. On with the show: 1. OLB Justin Houston, Georgia -- I've already explained myself here. 2. WR Austin Pettis, Boise State -- I'll bet he'll still be on the board when we pick. NFL teams are stupid when it comes to WR speed and the combine. Pettis gives us a surefire #2 WR. 3. NT Sione Fua, Stanford -- I'm assume Powe is picked up first, which is fine. I think Fua is more geared to play three-downs anyway. And he's insanely high character for a nose. 4. WR Edmund Gates, Abilene Christian -- Phenomenal speed, one of the best at the combine. Pretty good size. He can develop a bit while we let him take about 10 snaps a game his rookie season. All go routes! 5. QB Greg McElroy, Alabama -- Game manager. Smart as shit. SEC. We all know this is happening at this point. The question is where Pioli spends the pick. 5. OT Richard Lapham, Boston College -- We have pretty good depth for our OL, but Lapham is a bonus in case Branden Albert goes down and we have to move Barry Richardson to LT. O'Callaghan can man the RT in a bind, which leaves us zero depth if either of those guys go down. Lapham is a bit stiff in his movement, but he has great size and I love BC prospects. 7. S Jai Eugene, LSU -- I think Eugene needs a lot of work, but he's a great size/speed combo coming out of one of Pioli's favorite schools to scout. |

I'd rather the Chiefs went Sacc's route...
No C????? |
If we don't upgrade at center, either in the draft or FA, I'm going to flip the **** out.

This one is just... wtf? Pettis in the 2nd? Other teams wouldnt be stupid. The Chiefs would be stupid. You like to overrate a lot of players, though. |

Martez Wilson is a first round pick. Of this I am sure. Austin Pettis is probably low-2nd-early-3rd value. He will not be around when we pick in the 3rd. (WR is a curse this year. The few from big schools will be the ones everybody overrates. If you want to get solid value on a WR this year, you're going to have to pick any of the small school guys, which I did. That's where the bulk of the talent is -- if you can develop it.) Iam Williams probably won't last until the 4th, but I'm not as certain on that... Teams get really weird when it comes to NTs. And, well, Tolzien and Carimi suck ass. The only realistic selections I remotely like in your mock are Zane Taylor and Robert Hughes. |

Here you go... Quote:
Torrey Smith and Chris Neild are probably earlier than they will be drafted. Smith will probably end up in the back half of the first, so I reached a bit. Neild will likely go in the 6th, and we dont have a 6th and we need a NT. |

2) Brooks Reed, OLB 3) James Carpenter, OT 4) Tim Barnes, C 5a) Delvin/Dalton/Stanzi/Enderle (which ever is still there, in that order) 5b) Chris Neild, NT 7) Do. Not. Care. Bolded all the picks I like. Smith is a slight reach but like I said earlier, WRs from the big schools Pioli likes are slim picking. Barnes should be a solid 4th, and other than Devlin (people think lightning strikes in Delaware way too often) I'd be okay with any of those QBs in the fourth. Reed won't fall to our 2nd, Carpenter is a huge misallocation of a 3rd that could be spent on another WR, a QB, a RB, an ILB, or a NT. Carpenter wouldn't even start. And thanks for simply refusing to draft in the 7th. It's not like future starting quarterbacks are possible to find in the 7th. I don't think your mock is horrid (or realistic), but before you go off on how Direckshun likes to overrate players, keep in mind this is a guessing game, look at yourself in the mirror, and then kiss my nutsack. :D |

If I were to pick any position to look at in the 7th I would look at RB's and not QB's. |
I edited my 7th round for ya.

A center in this draft, or via free agency if there is a free agent signing period, is an absolute must. |

So I'm going to change my 7th, again, to Anthony Allen, RB. |
It would be absolutely asinine if Helu even fell to the 5th.
