Investigators in Garland, Texas, have issued a warrant for the arrest of Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib, the Garland Police Department said Tuesday afternoon.

Talib is scheduled to turn himself in later this week on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bail will be set at $25,000, police said.

His mother, Okolo Talib, turned herself in to police Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation began when police were called at 7:30 p.m. March 21 to a disturbance where people were fighting and gun shots had been heard.

Talib, 25, was a first-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2008.

Talib has been involved in several violent acts since joining the Bucs, including an August 2009 incident in Pinellas County in which he was charged with simple battery and resisting arrest in connection with an assault on a taxi driver. Talib reached a settlement with the cab driver, David Duggan, but was forced to perform 15 hours of community service and undergo eight hours of anger management before the case dismissed in November.

Talib also was suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for the first game of the 2010 season for his involvement in that incident, with Goodell citing the league's personal-conduct policy as the basis for his decision.

Talib took over as the Bucs' starting left cornerback in 2009. He has 11 interceptions, 26 passes broken up and 104 tackles in 26 games, all starts.

His career, however, has been marked by several off-field incidents. In July 2008, he was involved in a fight with fellow Tampa Bay rookie Cory Boyd at the NFL's Rookie Symposium. In May 2009, Talib got into a fight with teammate Donald Penn during a minicamp camp workout and wound up hitting another player, Torrie Cox, in the face with his helmet.
