What would you do in this situation?

So my wife repairs computers for a living and she charges a flat rate of $65. She gets a call from some dumbass that has tore apart his own laptop without knowing what the hell he was doing. He tried to put a new monitor on it and screwed it all up in the process.

He fed her some story about his dog and wife busting the thing up but she said she could tell he was lying to make himself look better. Apparently he kept screwing up and saying "I" then correcting himself when he was talking about the dog tripping over the cord.

Anyway, she can tell he is a real cheap ass right off the bat because he is already trying to negotiate her $65 fee. She tells him that is just the price, take it or leave it. He finally decides he isn't going to find it any better for the price so he tells her to fix it.

So, she finds out he screwed up the monitor when he put it in and it will need to be replaced. When she tells him he argues with her and tells her to put some new cables on it that it isn't the monitor. He tells her to just replace the cables. She gives into him but explains the cost is all on him if it doesn't fix it, he agrees.

She orders the cables and replaces them and neither fix the issue. She tries to explain it is the monitor again and this asshat just flies off the handle and tells her he is coming to get the laptop back and he isn't paying for shit.

Now, technically she didn't fix it but, she did tell him the cost was on him. She was able to send the cables back but should she expect payment? Should she give this douchebag his laptop back if he refuses to pay?

You waited to long.

Why would she charge a flat rate fee of $65? Does she not know some of those damn things cost more to repair then it is to buy a new one? Especially when it comes to the screens. Plus the plastic covers can be delicate and if you break one its damn near impossible to find a repacement. Business = Fail.

Its a labor fee, not a parts fee... champ.

Hell no. That douche is just one of those people that think if they bitch, they get off scott free. As soon as she does that, he is off bragging to his buddies. She needs to learn from this though and tell people in the future that if they want something tried that she didn't recommend, they can pay up front

Drop it. Life is more important than money.

blaise 09-15-2011 02:37 PM

She should maybe get the $65 up front in the future.

Or put the damn thing on Craigslist. Just bring a gun to the transaction. For self defense only, of course.
