Kelly warns Bills: ‘We ain’t the Chiefs’
When the Bills opened their season with a 41-7 torching of the Chiefs — last year’s AFC West champions — it left people wondering, has Kansas City toppled off a cliff, or does Buffalo have the goods?
Boasting some of the league’s most loyal fans, Buffalo would like nothing more than to keep the show going Sunday against Oakland, but Raiders NT Tommy Kelly insists his squad won’t fold like Matt Cassel’s wayward carnival.
“We ain’t the Chiefs,” Kelly told the Bills’ official site, while acknowledging that Buffalo’s under-the-radar days are over.
Said Kelly: “Oh yeah, it caught everybody’s attention around the league. Any time you can go on the road and have a victory like that, that’s going to open up a lot of people’s eyes.
“But the thing about the NFL is — that happened last week. You’ve got to do the same thing this week. So whatever they did is a nice impressive victory, but they’ve got to come and deal with us now.”
It seems like a lifetime since Buffalo dominated the conference, much less the AFC East. The last time the Bills opened 1-0 was in 2008, when a 34-10 win over the Seahawks propelled them to a 4-0 start. That team ended up 7-9.
The opening week of the season is ripe for overreaction and sky-is-falling analysis. Let’s see where the Bills stand once the leaves are off the trees in Orchard Park.
