Sprint: iPhone 4S or Samsung Galaxy

Ok, so the iPhone 4S is available at Sprint now. I'm due for an upgrade and have a few questions. I'm also considering the Samsung Galaxy S II.
  • Why the hell does the iPhone not have 4G capabilities? Am I reading that right on Sprint's site?
  • There is a 16GB, 32GB and 64GB version on the iPhone, all $100 increments. Is the only difference a replaceable microSD chip? Or is that built in memory.
  • I'm sure the opinions vary here, but if you were deciding, for the same price would you go with the iPhone or the Galaxy or another device from Sprint.

I understand many think Sprint sucks, but I've had a great experience with them for over 10 years so not interested in switching carriers.

BTW, I have an Android phone now, the HTC Hero.

I have the EVO 4G - easily the best phone I've ever owned. Very, very few problems with it at all. I also hear good things (and a few bad) about the EVO 3D, but it's worth a look at, as well. Either way, I'd most likely stick with Android.

Galaxy S, based purely upon 4g. And I say that as someone who has a 4S arriving at my doorstep in a few hours. Sprint's network is just too slow with 3G.

iPhones don't accept memory cards, so the sizes you listed are all internal memory.

Tough call. They're both pretty sweet phones.

In my experience, 4G is nice and fast, but it drains the ever lovin hell out of your battery, and 4G coverage is still very spotty. That wouldn't be one of my deciding factors.

I'd go with the iPhone if it were me. Mainly because that's what I've had for some time. I'd probably recommend the Samsung for you, for the same reason. The Galaxy S is a kick ass phone.

I really regret getting the Samsung Galaxy Indulge. It could be a good phone, but the battery life is about 5 hours even when it's not being used. If you are using it, maybe 1 hour at best. And yes I use task manager and shit.

I've had the phone for about 6 months now and just like anything else PC related it's starting to get all slow and even more crappy and it freezes quite a bit while you are doing something.

Again, I know about the task manager and the advanced task manager. But of course, you PC people will probably just tell me that it's my fault because I don't know how to open it up and grab a soldering iron and fix the motherboard and what not.

I'm gonna get the iphone in the near future.

I've never been happier with a computer than I am with my imac, it still runs like the day I bought it and if I bought PC, it would have already crapped itself. I'm done with PC, I'll gladly pay extra for apple products since they are obviously a superior, longer lasting product.

I'm with AT&T, and i'm choosing between the Galaxy 2 and the iPhone 4S. My upgrade date is 10/29, so I think whichever one they have in stock is the one i'll upgrade to.

What if they have both in stock?

I'm not sure. Haven't even considered that as a possibility.

Maybe i'll just flip a coin.

Well, if you want 4G, you should probably get the Galaxy.

Yeah...but I doubt Topeka will get 4G service within 2 years from AT&T. And if they do, it will suck.

Doesn't ATT use T-Mobile and isn't T-Mobile 4G everywhere?

If you are happy with android may I suggest sticking with that os over iPhone

Ios is very straightforward and user friendly but you are forced to use apples walled garden that is itunes

I personally hate itunes and think it's a resource hog. If you are attached to itunes then the iPhone is for you

Now the Galaxy s ii is a nice device but feels very cheap and Samsung is known for dropping the ball on supporting a device after its release

May i suggest the Motorola photon4g if you're still considering android

Sent via tapatalk from the Photon 4G

Is that a Sprint device?

I am leaning towards an Android phone but really don't want to leave Sprint. I may consider the EVO as well.

Here's a good article comparing the two best Android phones Sprint has to offer:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4643/h...t-sprint-phone

If you're too lazy to read the whole thing, here's the summary:

Quote:

I never thought I'd be so torn between two phones on Sprint's network before. The HTC EVO 3D and the Motorola Photon 4G truly have complementary strengths and weaknesses. The EVO 3D has a better display, while the Photon 4G has a better camera. The EVO delivers better WiMAX performance in areas with good signal strength, while the Photon is better in areas with poor reception. The EVO's browser scrolls smoother but renders slower. The Photon has better Flash performance, while the EVO has better 3D performance. The Photon does better on battery while the EVO has a better software layer on top of Android. To make matters worse, there are no good candidates from a third party. If you want the fastest there is on Sprint, these are your only two options.

How do you choose? I think it ultimately boils down to WiMAX reception. If it were me, I'd go for the Photon. Based on where I live I'm at the edge of WiMAX coverage. The EVO 3D can't hold onto a WiMAX signal reliably at my house so I'm constantly falling back to EVDO, while the Photon can hang on pretty well. If you live in an area with great WiMAX reception or find yourself on WiFi most of the time then the EVO starts to look a lot more appealing. If wireless reception is out of the equation then the EVO 3D's only major knock is its poor 2D camera quality, which is still good enough for sharing on the web.

So there you have it. If WiMAX reception matters, go for the Photon, otherwise grab the EVO 3D.
4G reception is not a problem where I live (Overland Park), so it seems I made the right choice when I went with the EVO 3D. :)
