J Edgar

Who is going to see this? I'm thinking about it this weekend and haven't seen anything on here about it.

I think it looks pretty good. I like DiCaprio, and I'm a pretty big fan of Jeffrey Donnovan. Personally, I don't know much about J Edgar Hoover and am not really familiar with what went on in that timeframe in terms of politics, intelligence, security, etc. So it can't really screw up what I think I know.

Anyway, what says the Planet?

AFAIK he was ruthless, paranoid, great at his job, and liked to lounge around in women's clothing. Aside from that, I got nothing. But I'm sure it'll be well done, and DiCaprio will do a good job. He's already been Howard Hughes, so this shouldn't be too much harder.

I've been really looking forward to this one because I find the FBI and its history fascinating. The fact that DiCaprio is playing Hoover and Eastwood is directing make it even more of a must see for me. Can't wait!

I hope at the end harry truman dumps FDR body off of the wheel chair into the water then he screws kate winslett on the last table floating and then the credits come up to Enter Sandman by metallica.

Pretty much.

I saw it and thought it was better than the 41% fresh rating it got on RT.

Finally was able to catch this last night.

Take whatever offense you want with the story, but the acting and production was incredible. Jesus. Early in his career, I hated DiCaprio, but the dude is a BAMF.

That being said, I'd imagine the story turned most people off. But I found it interesting. I absolutely love that era in history. Love it. Yeah, JEH was a wack job, but as a period piece about a wack job, it was pretty good.

I tried to watch it but couldn't get into it, much like "Goodnight and Good Luck". I own both and just can't get past about 30 minutes of either.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I can really see that. It is not plot driven, it is absolutely character driven, and it is very difficult to connect to J Edgar Hoover. But that era of history kept me intrigued.

It is a great movie. I find myself watching it everytime it's on HBO. I'll probably check out a good bio on him and read it.

That's what I'm thinking. I'd love to know more about him. Not because I hold him in some overly utopian view of him as a hero or something. But because he's an interesting character.
