Playoff Fantasy Challenge

This is my first year. Has anyone done (and had success) in one of these?

In short, you pick 8 players (QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, DEF, K), standard scoring (not sure about PPR). If you pick a player on a team that wins, you get double points the next round. If they win again, you get triple points the next round. If you picked a guy in the first round and they make it to the super bowl, you get 4x points.

If a guy you pick gets knocked out, you can pick a new player, but the multiplying of points starts over.

Any good strategies? Would you spread your players around to different teams? Or would you essentially pick one team to ride all the way?

Well....your QB is either going to be Rodgers, Brees or Brady.

If you have a player on your team and that team gets knocked out.....do you get zero points for the rest of the playoffs for that position? Or do you get to pick a new player?

If one of your players gets knocked out of the playoffs, then you can pick a new player, but only single points for that round, double the next, etc. It starts over.

So...say you pick Calvin Johnson, and DET loses to NO in the first round, but he puts up 30 points. You can then pick, say, Jordy Nelson in the 2nd round, and he gives you 20. But someone who picked Jordy Nelson at the beginning would have gotten 0 for the first round, 40 for the 2nd round (20 x 2), and if Jordy then puts up 15 in the NFC championship, then you get 45 for that round (15 x 3).

Player 1 (Calvin, then Jordy) would have 30+20+(15x2)=80. Player 2 (Jordy from the start) would have 0+(20x2)+(15x3)=85. If the Packers were in the Super Bowl, player 1 would get triple points, but player 2 would get quadruple.

What about 1st round byes? Can you change your lineup from week to week?

I don’t think you can change a player that is still in the playoffs. And even if you could, you wouldn’t want to, because you will get multiple of that players points for each round he moves on.

You can pick a guy that has a first round bye, but –
CON: you will get 0 points for the first round
PRO: you are guaranteed to get double points for the 2nd round, triple if they win, etc.

I’m just curious what others have done, and what types of teams have won in the past – spread your players around (a couple with byes, a couple without byes, several different teams), or fill your roster with guys from the team you are most confident will win it all.

Is this the NFL.com Playoff Challenge?

Sounds exactly like what they do and yes I play every year.

One last question. Is it most points scored over the entire post season? Or is this a head to head type thing?

That wasn't the question.

Not head-to-head. Most points wins. I think they are paying out for top 3.

Like I'm going to tell you and miss my shot at going to the Super Bowl :D

Seriously,I've yet to hit on a winning strategy, the play-offs are so damn unpredictable you just take a shot and hope to hell it works.

The Franchise 01-06-2012 03:06 PM

I would probably go.

Drew Brees
Arian Foster
Ray Rice
Calvin Johnson
Jordy Nelson
Jimmy Graham
49ers
David Akers

I know! That's why I'm torn on going all one team or spreading it around. if you hit on the right team, you are a lock (unless everyone does the same thing). If your team loses, you end up starting over while everyone else is lapping you with multiple points.

Personally,I'm still mixing it up just a bit,but I will tell you I'm going with starters all the way in round 1,I just think scoring is going to be up to the point where you don't want to take an automatic zero in week 1.

I do this, but it's not the same scoring system.

For my league, you get to make a team out of 300 points. Each players is assigned a point value (for example: Aaron Rodgers 81, Drew Brees 79, Tom Brady 77, Ray Rice 64, etc.) The better the player and the better the chances of going all the way to the Super Bowl the higher their point value.

There are no double or triple multipliers for the next rounds, and if one of your players loses, then you can choose a new person. There is an 8 transaction limit after the first game starts.

This is the first time I've ever done this, it's for $20 and there are about 20 players.

Here is my lineup.

Brees, Drew QB NO 79
Sproles, Darren RB NO 54
Starks, James RB GB 31
Jones, Julio WR ATL 40
Colston, Marques WR NO 37
Finley, Jermichael TE GB 21
Suisham, Shaun K PIT 15
Saints DST 23
Team Units 300

I had the Texans D because I thought they'd do better this week and they are only 21 points, but I don't want to waste a choice on them when they are inevitably going to lose.
