Ohio State T Mike Adams Tested Positive

Ohio State T Mike Adams Tested Positive For Marijuana At The Combine

Ohio State offensive tackle Mike Adams, a projected first round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, tested positive for marijuana at this year's Scouting Combine, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports.

According to La Canfora, Adams has been upfront with NFL clubs since learning of his positive test result which could keep him from slipping in next week's draft.

At 6-foot-7 and 323 pounds with 34" arms and 10 7/8" hands, Adams is built like the protoypical left tackle and possesses the natural athletic ability to man that position at the next level, but is likely to begin his NFL career on the right side. Adams only played in 32 games for the Buckeyes, missing time with shoulder and knee injuries, as well as disciplinary issues. Adams was suspended for two games as a sophomore for violating team rules and was suspended for the first five games of his senior season for receiving improper benefits from a tattoo parlor.

Should Adams drop him to the second round, the cost of his positive test result could be over $3 million. The average guarantee of the final 10 picks of the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft was $5.942 million. The average guarantee of the first 10 picks in the second round of last year's draft was $3.036 million, a number boosted by Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick receiving the quarterback premiums in their contracts.

This should knock down his draft stock by about 1-2 picks. :P

Not a big deal IMO. I'm sure there are several, several pro athletes doing this.

He just wants to be drafted by the cowboys

I'd take him with a 2nd if he fell in a heartbeat.

Why?

1. Not a need.
2. Guy has no motor.
3. We could fill a need with a more dependable player in the second.

I would take him with a third. He under produced for us, but when he came back his senior year he was a monster. The guy has unreal potential if he can keep motivated. It's sad that its the same ol motivation song, but he could be great, or he could be worthless. He has all the tools, he just has to get his mind right.

Backup tackle is a big need. KC has nobody behind Winston or Albert.

Third rounder, maybe. We're almost required to go NT in the 2nd, barring a Poe-lapse in the 1st.

We were almost required to go NT early in the last 3 drafts and didn't do it.

With the acquisition of Gregg last year, I think the FO was set on picking value late in the draft at NT.

They didn't sign Gregg until July. They got lucky he became available.

I'd take a chance on him if he took a Justin Houston style slide FOR SURE. Protoypical build that could save us some dollars on Albert if he is well coached OR could be solid depth.

I stand corrected, then.

1. He's not a need until he is; can we count on Winston and Albert staying healthy all year? How do you figure that this team doesn't desperately need another tackle - Steve Maneri and David Mimms appear to be our backups right now. And what happens if Albert leaves? Adams is absolutely capable of playing LT.

2. Says who? Adams' effort is generally regarded as adequate, though not his greatest strength. He really stepped up last season in that department.

3. Again - says who? This isn't a good tackle crop. Anyone that would be available that is 'more dependable' has a substantially lower ceiling in this draft.

Adams would be a very good pick in the 2nd round for us, IMO. He provides depth where we desperately need it and could be a very good developmental player for us.

Not if you think Chapman will fall to the 3rd.
