Hosley and Burfict flunk drug tests

Jay Glazer reporting that Jayron Hosley and Burfict have flunked drug tests. Yet another strike against Burfict, and a guy who once was predicted to be a mid 1st rounder likely falls completely out of the draft.

Frosty 04-25-2012 10:15 AM

It's like Burfict is going out of his way to try to not get drafted. :doh!:

I'd still use a 7th on him just to keep from dealing with the UDFA process with him. We have that 2nd 7th rounder, why not?

Hosely, OTOH, almost certainly just bounced himself into the 3rd or maybe 4th rounds. I didn't care for him at all as a 2nd rounder and still don't love him in the 3rd, but if this test bounces him down to the 4th I might be interested.

Need more info. What was it that made them flunk the drug test?

If it's just from smoking the J, honestly not that big of a deal IMO. Don't get me wrong. Still a knucklehead for doing it when you know a test is coming but certainly different from something more serious.

It isn't a big deal to you and me, but it is a big deal when you're considering giving the guy a million dollars.

I'd still spend a late draft pick on Burfict.
No sense in fighting other teams for his services once he falls out of the Draft altogether.

A) It's still illegal. I know it probably shouldn't be, but it is.

B) It's reckless as hell and shows incredibly poor judgment.

Failing a drug test isn't a problem for the use of the drug itself - but it is an issue for what it suggests. And ultimately, even the 'success stories' of guys that fell due to a bad drug test still tend to have some headaches along the way (see: Moss, Randy). Now I'd be willing to deal with the headaches for a guy like Houston, who I think is a damn freak of nature.

But Hosley? Probably not. He's just not good enough to risk the history that comes with most of the guys that fail these pre-draft drug tests.

god damn burfict is a moron

Mr. Laz 04-25-2012 10:40 AM

This is more about the stupidity/maturity level it takes to get busted on a drug test that you've know was coming for months, if not years. What level of dumbass do you have to reach to get busted on a drug test that will cost you MILLIONS?

suds79 04-25-2012 10:48 AM

I guess I didn't make my point clear enough.

100% agree that is shows pure stupidity.

I guess I'm talking more in general. If I can get a 2nd round talent (just throwing out an example) in the 6th who happens to have fallen because he's stupid by smoking the J?, I'll roll the dice.

6th rounder probably would have been cut anyways.

Me too.

Hosley's a fit.

If you have a multi million dollar payday coming up and you are such a moron as to not be able to hold off on getting high for one month, I as an owner would have a problem betting my money on such a mental midget.

Burfict has a history of making poor decisions - couldn't cut down on the personal fouls his last year even knowing scouts were watching; shows up to the combine out of shape; fails a drug test before the draft ...

ToxSocks 04-25-2012 11:31 AM

Burfict is reaching (or has reached) Maurice Clarett stupid.
