Abe Elam visits Chiefs
Veteran safety Abe Elam visited the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a league source.
Elam recently visited the Tennessee Titans along with fellow free agent safety Gibril Wilson. Elam, 30, started every game last season for the Dallas Cowboys. He recorded 68 tackles and one forced fumble. Elam has previous stints with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and spent his rookie year in Dallas. He has 373 career tackles, five sacks and three interceptions with 17 pass deflections and eight forced fumbles. For more coverage of the NFL, go to profootball.scout.com. it has nothing to do with Berry you idiot
we need a ****ing 3rd safety for our sub packages. preferably one with starting experience. You cant just go in there with just a rookie at FS/SS #2. We will sign a guy to replace McGraw/Sabby eventually. |
It's not Berry, it's so we don't have to double team tightends with 2 backup safeties again this year.

I've heard Lewis is progressing slower than anticipated. Not sure this has anything to do with that.

Training camp is still 2 months away. |
Go **** yourself, troll.
That being said, we need safety depth. Sounds as good as any. |
I have to worry about someone even the Cowboys, with their secondary issues, give up on.

they are bringing in guys that know the system
Elam, Yeremiah Bell, etc. Atogwe might have been a reach. Some of these vets still probably think their broke dick selfs can be a starter in the league somewhere (though its getting thin). I wouldnt be surprised if they just resign McGraw. (Or if McGraw signs with the Steelers lol) |

Abram Elam visits the Chiefs Posted by Josh Alper on May 24, 2012, 5:16 PM EDT Abram Elam AP The Chiefs kicked the tires on veteran safety Abram Elam on Thursday, according to Adam Caplan of Sirius XM Radio. Elam spent 2011 with the Cowboys, where he started every game and recorded 68 tackles. Elam had a decent year against the run, but his poor coverage skills were part of the problem with the Dallas defense last season. Elam joined defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in Dallas after starting 31 games for him with the Browns in 2009 and 2010. Elam started his career in Dallas in 2006, spent two years with the Jets and then moved to the Browns in the Mark Sanchez trade. The Chiefs could use some bodies at safety right now. Starters Eric Berry and Kendrick Lewis are being brought along slowly after a torn ACL and pectoral muscle, respectively, and rookie Da’Quan Menzie has a hamstring injury. That’s left undrafted rookie Terrance Parks and cornerback Travis Daniels at safety during Organized Team Activities, a situation that wouldn’t be hurt by a bit more depth at the position. Per Caplan, Elam has also visited with the Titans. |
Is this the same Abe that's the vampire hunter?

Really, guys.
They should just re-sign Jon McGraw if they think OJ is done. Is he perfect? No, but he is just as good as guys like Elam. Just don't expect him to cover fast tight ends effectively. |
I think they want options. Don't necessarily think this one is any better than Piscatelli. The biggest hole we had at safety last year was in coverage. A safety who can't cover may as well put on some weight and switch to linebacker.

Would be a good mentor for DeQuan Menzie. And he is still a solid ST contributor. |
