Moving advice

Dear Chiefsplanet...

I am moving to Illinois and have a, basically, brand new queen size mattress and box that was very expensive and I do not want to leave behind or sell for $0.60 on the $1. I got a few quotes for shipping rates and they are all over $300 and come from some pretty seedy shipping companies.

I don't need to rent a moving truck as all of my stuff easily fits into my 2002 Audi Allroad (with a sturdy luggage rack on top) and don't need to pay $800 + gas for a Uhaul + towing (for my car) rental.

Basically, I want to get this queen size bed and box to Illinois (800 miles) without getting pulled over for dangerous hauling (or whatever it may be) and with the mattress arriving in 1 piece in good condition. My friends seem to think with a tarp and several ratchet straps it would be more than safe on my luggage rack, but man...I just don't see it nor am I good with this stuff.

If anyone has any experience in this sort of thing or has some advice or anything...maybe even instructions on how to do this without ****ing my car up, my mattress up, and putting an entire interstate of other cars in danger...I would be greatly appreciative.

Go Chiefs,

Spoiler!

Damn. And here I thought Wendler finally decided to move out of mom's basement.

Buy a trailer. Haul mattress. Sell a trailer.

Queen size beds suck.

Throw it away and get a bigger one in Illinois

I can't see it going on top of the car.

And I'm pretty innovative in these areas, mainly because I don't give a **** if I have to move something.

but in order to buy a trailer I need to get the latch on the back of my car...is that worth it? Something I could look into I suppose.

1. Sell mattress.
2. Move.
3. Buy mattress.

I loved the All-road. That adjustable raised suspension was so ****ing baus. Really pissed that Audi scrapped that car after only a year or two of churning them out.

Plus those two-tone interiors were sexy. The V6 turbo gave a pretty nice purr, too, for a station wagon

A hitch will run you $125-200 installed at U-Haul. Dunno exactly how much for your make/model.

Does you mean I can pay someone to strap it to my car? Or buy it off of me? Or ship it for me?
