You darn gluten

Anyone participating in a gluten-free diet? Anyone notice a difference with respect to food allergies?

Beer these days is really ****ing my skin up (I know it's sad, I love microbrews). Thinking about switching to some gluten free beer and see if it helps.

Sounds like your gluten for punishment

Do you ACTUALLY have a wheat allergy, or are you self-diagnosed?

Self diagnosing at this point. I did have an allergy scratch test done about 3 years ago with no major allergies identified. I also have a screwed up immune system. Persistent bouts with Eczema, Psoriasis..MRSA...I'm a mess about one week every other month.

Our youngest daughter is 17 months old. In the last five months she has been on 4 different antibiotics for a UTI, a sinus infection, and an ear infection. We have asked the doctors over and over what is causing all of these infections and they say they don't know, but they sure as shit are quick to give her some antibiotic. Anyway, we have grown tired of hearing, "I don't know" so we went else where to seek a more natural approach to health. We got in contact with a Holistic Health Care Practitioner and she suggested to cut out the gluten, dairy, and sugar in her diet. We don't know if she is actually allergic to gluten, but at least she was able to give us a possible reason instead of just saying she didn't know and then try to dope my kid up.

I would find a better way of identifying possible food allergies, before just randomly removing things from your diet. Especially such awesome items as beer.

Self diagnosis is terribly inaccurate, for many reasons.

I would tend to agree with you but its tough when you have to wake up in the middle of the night to put hydrocotisone cream on your balls that now resemble Rudolph's nose (x2) after drinking five Dogfish Head 90Min that evening.

You might want to cut out the beer unless you like swollen, glowing balls

Her problem could be that she is eating books. Might be worth looking into.

I don't even know what gluten is but it must be delicious since it seems to be in all my favorite foods!

wilas101 08-03-2012 09:54 AM

my wife is on a gluten free diet and when she gets beer she gets New Grist from (I believe) Lakefront Brewery.

I like it as well. If it wasn't 10 bucks a 6 pack I'd drink it exclusively.

Have tried Redbridge from Anheuser Busch (horrible imo) and a gluten free offering from Bard's Tale (pretty good).
