Squid goes insane in the membrane

What happens when you play Cypress Hill to a squid? http://cdn.cnet.com.au/story_media/3...64/squid_1.jpg Seriously, you have to see this. Squids don't have ears, as we know them. But it is possible to convert an audio signal into an electrical one (this is what happens when you speak into a microphone; sounds coming through speakers is the reverse). Scientists at Backyard Brains wanted to know what would happen if they hooked up an iPod Nano to a Longfin Inshore squid via a suction electrode. It had an amazing effect on the squid's chromatophores — that is, the cells that control the colour of the squids skin and allow it to camouflage itself. Watch the video to see what happens. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/G-OVrI9x8Zs?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Fascinating... but not what this is ultimately proving?
Pick your music carefully? |
I am picturing one giant wall of a club made into a video display. Whatever song is playing gets sent through the squid and the results are put up on the wall.

Using this technology, we could line cars with Squid skin and become invisible.
The down side is that you have to be bumping Cypress Hill all over town, so your position would be a giveaway. |
What you can't see in the video is that the squid is freaking the **** out.

That squid's got more rhythm than I do.

Like to see this when you play Slayer or Hank Williams Sr to it.
