Kansas City Chiefs — 8-Bit Pale Ale (Tallgrass Brewing Co., Manhattan, Kan.)
This homage to the early age of video games — note the can’s pixelated Pac-Man-esque character sticking his tongue out — is one of the best hoppy canned beers I’ve sampled. It has a great, piney flavor that’s far more complex than that found in most canned brews, plus loads of citrus. Despite a hint of balancing sweetness, 8-bit finishes dry.

Dale's Pale is really good. And you can crush the empties.

I love Tallgrass Brewing Co., but it's outrageous not to have Boulevard represent all things KC.

I'm assuming the "tailgate friendly" part means that they're aiming for places that have beer in cans for the most part.

People's Pale Ale? OF course no one knows shit about the Jags and they take shots in the dark attempting to include them in anything.

Archie F. Swin 09-21-2012 03:32 PM

Holy Christ, Torpedo IPA is some strong shit.

CoMoChief 09-21-2012 04:27 PM

What??? NO CAMO ?!?!

How is Boulevard not representing KC? That's one of the best craft breweries in the entire nation and they are growing, they are FINALLY showing up here in Boston. The first 2 years I lived here, no blvd anywhere, they didn't distribute to Mass. Then a year later the smokestack series showed up and I was very happy that day I walked into the liquor store and I see a 4 pack of Tank 7 sitting there, my eyes lit up!

Then for a yr I'm happy having Tank 7 and the double wide IPA, along with other things of course.

Then I see the Boulevard Wheat about 2 months ago for the first time. So happy to have my favorite summer time beer back!

Bump 09-21-2012 04:46 PM

and lol Whales Tail Pale Ale for the Patriots? WHAT? this article is ****ing stupid. Boston is ALL about Sam Adams, but harpoon is better IMO. But anyways, that's Boston's beer man, everybody goes crazy for the seasonal's. Spring = people go nuts for that pilsner they do (meh), summer is all about Sam Summer, fall is all about their Octoberfest and winter I don't know, lol. That's stout season for me and they don't have any stouts I know of or like.

This article is trying to be way too hippie, artsy fartsy on us.

Bump 09-21-2012 04:48 PM

at least they got the Saints right, Abita is huge there

Everyone is too busy being outraged to read the damn article preceding the selections.

When glass hits pavement it tends to shatter. The moral: Don’t tailgate with bottled beer.

In the early days of micro and craft brewing, canned beer had a bad reputation; beer-geek approval meant bottles. But over the past decade or so, the craft-beer contingent has fully embraced aluminum. Cans keep beer fresher by shutting out light and oxygen, both of which can skunk a beer. They're more portable than bottles and easier to produce, transport and recycle. And real or perceived, there’s a humility to canned beer that just seems more appropriate in certain settings, especially a football game.

The NFL season kicked off Sept. 5. If you’re after the convenience of cans with a bit more attention to flavor and locality, just about every football fan has options. With the exception of one beer-starved region, I’ve paired a local canned craft beer with each NFL team. Fortunately, no expansion teams started up this year – there’s no room left in my fridge
