26 Acts of Kindness for those in Newtown

If you are like me, and by that I mean "human," you were emotionally impacted by Friday's events. With all that emotion, and nothing to do with it, I am happy I came across this suggestion:

Inspired to act: #26Acts of Kindness to honor those lost in Newtown, Conn.
Newtown's heartbreak has a lot of us asking, "What can I do?" Thinking about this, Ann Curry took to Twitter and asked people to imagine what would happen if all of us committed to 20 acts of kindness to honor each child lost in Newtown. She added, "I'm in. If you are, RT #20Acts." Read more: http://nbcnews.to/R2v7bV
I never do this type of stuff. That being said, watching that father talk on CNN on Saturday about his little girl was one of the most impactful things I've ever watched. I truly think that image will stay in my head for the rest of my life, and I don't even have kids yet. Outside of 9/11, I've never been so affected by a news story that, for all intents and purposes, had nothing to do with me.

So, as hokey as it is, I think I am going to do this. I am going to print out a small list of 26 names with a little check box next to each one. And over the coming weeks, I am going to try and make a good thing happen for someone else; be it letting them have my spot in line, buying someone's coffee, gas, or dinner, helping someone change a tire, etc....

I think I'll be provided with those opportunities if I open my eyes wide enough.

If you decide you want to participate, feel free to post your experiences in this thread over the next few weeks, months, or however long it takes you.

Take care, and have a wonderful holiday season.

*the picture below was taken from the article. It's just the kid's 20 names.

my wife and i used to pick up the check of a stranger when we'd go out to dinner. nothing too $$$ but like at Chilli's or Applebee's etc.
I'd like to start doing that again.

I really like that idea.

it was nice; as we would walk outjust tell their server let us pay. so they wouldn't know who or why someone would do it etc.

But did you leave them your credit card? Or you just asked them who was about to get their bill?

Would giving away my Chiefs-Colts tickets be considered a kind act or cruel?

Great idea Dante. Btw I could use $100 bucks...

when we'd leave, we'd just have them close out what they had on their ticket; so if they got anything else after we left.....well, **** them.

Okay, so first one down. I was way out of my comfort zone, but I suppose that's sometimes when the best things happen.

Got lunch at Whole Foods, and paid by card. I did $10 cash back, and told the cashier to use it on the next person in line. It was awkward at first, because I was kind of being shy, and because he didn't initially understand what was going on. But he finally got it and was like "wow, thats cool" as I walked off.

Not grand-standing by any means, but I think this will get easier as it goes on.

I thought it would be good to post the deeds in here so people can use as a resource for their own deeds. Lord knows I'll need help coming up with 26.
