WMD's were found in Iraq

WMD's are chemical, biological, nuclear, or radiological weapons.

Here's a report from the DOD that says munitions containing mustard and sarin gas were found in Iraq.

Here's a report from the house select comittee on intelligence stating the same thing.

No nutjob links, but real evidence showing stockpiles of WMD's did in fact exist in Iraq. Just throwing it out for the "bush lied, people died" crowd.

jfc

we had no business going into Iraq

at the time, I was for the invasion of Afghanistan because I thought we'd go right in there and take out OBL.

Oh how we were all deceived. My god our govt lied our their asses to us all and we still take their words for absolutely everything. smh

The Bush-Lied-People-Died crowd are pretty oblivious to the truth.

This was already known to anyone paying attention.

This breaking news from 7 years ago is huge.

"The munitions addressed in the report were produced in the 1980s, Maples said. Badly corroded, they could not currently be used as originally intended, Chu added."

So, they were not producing them as was claimed (these were from the 80s) and they couldn't have even been used as intended because they had degraded.

In other words, there is probably more dangerous stuff under your kitchen sink--that bottle of Clorox bleach is a potential WMD!

I'm invading you now unless you step down from this board immediately.

Our list of reasons for invading Iraq were manifold. One, that turned out to be based on faulty evidence, was that Saddam's regime had an active WMD program. Another, that was based on compelling inspection results, was that Saddam had not appropriately accounted for and disposed of the stockpiles he possessed prior to Gulf War I. This vindicates the latter.

As it turns out, most of our reasons for going to war ended up being grounded in truth. The one you point to is an exception, but it doesn't de-legitimize the decision to put an end to Saddam's twelve years of anti-American belligerence and provocation.

Sure we did. We needed to further our presence in the region and we needed to drum up some business for defense contractors.

Pat, you're being silly. As you said, the active WMD program thing was complete BS and was basically THE reason for invading--that they were an imminent threat to us ("They have WMDs and we know where they are.")

The stuff about old stockpiles from the 80s "vindicates" the decision? It certainly wasn't an actual part of the decision because it is and was a phony issue. Most of it actually was accounted for. But the other stuff found abandoned, long ago buried away--was worthless. It was degraded, not usuable as weapons.
