Rays pitcher Alex Cobb had 13 Ks in 4.2 IP

However, he's in line to lose on a balk and just got pulled. First time all season a Rays starting pitcher didn't go at least 5 IP

This thread probably didn't need to be made.

EagleRob 05-10-2013 07:07 PM

Still damn impressive

Buck 05-10-2013 07:09 PM

The go ahead run was a batter who reached first on a wild pitch strike out, stole 2nd and 3rd, and then got balked home.

Buck 05-10-2013 07:15 PM

Not sure how noteworthy this is, but its the first time in Major League history a pitcher had 13 K in less than 5 innings.

tk13 05-10-2013 07:23 PM

Threw 117 pitches too. That's impressive for 4.2 innings.

Deberg_1990 05-10-2013 07:52 PM

Strikouts are overrated. Ultimately its jus another out. What difference does it make if its a strikeout or a throw out? Plus, strikeout pitchers tend to throw more pitches obviously.

Getting an out while a batter doesn't make any contact is sorta huge. Prevents a sacrifice or error.

Coogs 05-10-2013 08:31 PM

13 of 14 outs via the K.

Not bad, But probably can't hold a candle to some of our CPers best efforts.

Someone clearly doesn't know about/believe in FIP.

Or has never had to watch a shitty baseball defense.

Yep, there is no way to get guys out except for strikeouts.

Stanley Nickels 05-10-2013 11:44 PM

In HS, Hootie once struck out ten men in three innings. FACT.
