Fantasy Baseball Trade Help
I was just offered a 1-1 deal:
I trade Evan Longoria; I get Ryan Braun. Twelve team league. We use a 7x7 format. Hitting categories are R, HR, RBI, SB, TB, AVG, and OBP Here's the skinny for my roster C: Carlos Santana 1B: Pujols 2B: Kendrick SS: Castro 3B: Longoria OF: Trout OF: Holliday OF: Lorenzo Cain UTIL: Mark Reynolds Bench hitters are: OF Willingham OF: Brett Gardner 2B: Rickie Weeks I also have Profar stored away. Would you make this deal? I can move Reynolds to third and plug Braun in as the 3rd OF, riding the hot hand of Willingham or Cain, or hoping for steals from Gardner. The advanced metrics suggest that Longoria's BA is unsustainable, but he should be able to keep his power binge up, as his HR/FB percentage isn't aberrational. He's hitting the same % of LD, but he's hitting far more FBs than GBs than at any point in his career. Braun's current BABIP is also unsustainable, but his SB #s are way down. The other issue is health. Longoria rarely stays healthy for 162, and Braun has been a horse. Longoria's position is far more valuable, and although Reynolds has been a top 20 player so far, there's no way he can sustain this clip, and I don't want four months of .200 BA and 150 Ks from a 3B. Common sense says just pull the trigger given Braun's past, but if he's not stealing bases, he's putting up similar numbers to Longoria at a position of far less value. What would you do? |
Do it. Longoria won't stay healthy and Gardner could pick up the slack in the SB's at UTIL. Plus the dropoff from Braun to Lorenzo Cain is much steeper than Longoria to Reynolds to me personally.
|
I would do it.
Braun is just more of a known quantity. I love Longo but don't buy his health and having this type of success all season. Is Reynolds eligible at 1B in your league? |
Humble brag/advice for me, while we're at it:
I'm in that deep auction/keeper league ($300 cap/24 salaried players, 10 non-salaried from a snake draft). My team is cruising in all hitting stats save SBs (which are slowly ticking up... just had a strange start to the season but should finish middle of the pack). I have more keepers that I know what to do with (we're only allowed 9). I am probably going to trade a spare hitter for one more SP. I have Brandon Beachy stashed and coming back soon, but I'm not sure he'll give me the boost I need by myself. I've been getting by with Herrera and Drew Smyly at two of 9 P spots (High K relievers, at least). Anyway, here are my core keepers and their value for next year: Trout - 12 Harper - 9 Machado - 11 (:evil grin:) Cano - 40 Kemp - 28 Sale - 8 Miller - 8 That leaves me with two keeper spots open. I need to choose from the following list: Allen Craig - 8 Chase Headley - 5 Oscar Taveras - 5 Jedd Gyorko - 5 Ian Kinsler - 40 Jed Lowrie - 4 (we start 15 hitters with a lot of depth at MI, so 2B/SS eligibility he'll have for next year make him very valuable - Erick Aybar was kept in this league) Who should I keep as part of my core? Who should I leverage for trade bait? |
I'd definitely keep Taveras. Craig is is an average WAR 1B but comes at a great price. Kinsler will probably move to 1B with Profar eventually being promoted. Gyorko has top 10 2B potential but I'd wait to see how he progresses this season first.

I'm going to have to consult Prison bitch first.

Hold out for Francoeur.

I wouldn't trade with Duncan Idaho. The dude is a stud in fantasy baseball. He was scouting out players in the Cardinals thread even though he is a Royals fan to get a leg up on the competition.
Worked out well too.:thumb: Maybe have a Hamas vs. Duncan Idaho fantasy baseball cage match? |

My first rounders by year: 2007: Manny Ramirez 2008: Matt Holliday 2009: Hanley Ramirez 2010: Joe Mauer 2011: Hanley Ramirez 2012: Troy Tulowitzki Every player but Ramirez in '09 severely underperformed from the previous year, and all were in their age 25-28 seasons, save Ramirez. |
I did it. Braun's consistency is just too good to pass up. It turns 3B from a decided strength to a potential weakness, but makes my outfield elite.

Some advice please
I'm being offered - David Wright for Clay Buchholz First time doing fantasy baseball as I'm not a big baseball guy. Is it harded to find a pitcher a notch below Buchholz as opposed to hoping to find a good 3b? 3b is my weakest position. Oh, I have Kershaw, Darvish, Cj wilson, Papelbon and Shelby Miller as pitchers. thanks guise |
I'd do that. Buccholz will come crashing down soon, IMO.
