Another Talented Kid thread.

This kid may have been posted here before, but I'm just now discovering him after this cover...

Psh whatever, that kid sucks. /Dane

mr. tegu 06-19-2013 09:05 AM

It is pretty good and all but it is kind of meh. Althought I have never heard the song he is covering so that might make a difference.

Haha. I honestly don't see Dane saying that here.

Playing percussion on your guitar has been done many times, but not to this complexity. This kid is a beast.

Enjoy. A LOT of people would say this is one of the greatest pieces of music of all time.

Seriously though that was cool as hell, not to mention he picked the greatest Tool song ever.

Its up there for sure. The fibonacci sequence in it is incredible, those guys are musical wizards.

mdchiefsfan 06-19-2013 09:13 AM

Damn impressive

mr. tegu 06-19-2013 09:16 AM

I realize this guy is older so I am not trying one up the kid, but I just thought I would share this if some people have never heard of him. This is Andy Mckee and he is actually from Topeka. He plays amazing original compositions in this same general style. Here are a few examples. The first one is beautiful at 0:43.

Yeah man, Andy Mckee is a great player. I've known about him for a long time.

There is no doubt that if he practiced doing Lateralus, he has the talent to do it...

I can understand if you are not very familiar with Tool's Lateralus, that the OP video wouldn't be as impressive.

I really like the instrumental work. That is really good. Not a big fan of the lyrical component though which is probably why I have never really been drawn to them.

MTG#10 06-19-2013 09:24 AM

Slightly off-topic and old but for those of you who haven't watched this check it out. You will gain a new appreciation for the one of the most talented bands in history whether you like them or not.

After listening to the original song then going back to listen to the OP, it definitely has more of a "that is really cool" factor. He really gets the rythym and percussion sounds out.

This is not so high on the difficulty scale but an awesome cover Scary monster and nice sprites.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-19-2013 11:28 AM

I thought that was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen done with a guitar. This kid took an acoustic guitar and played the bass, percussion, and guitar line of one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. That is a level of originality, talent, and ability I've rarely seen.

Law literally mandates that every Guitar Center have several 12-year-olds on staff that can do exactly this. AND they do it better.
