Nate Taylor of the New York Times writes this piece, which includes some very interesting tidbits. You need to read the entire thing but here's what jumped out at me:

Reid: Starters will play more next week

1. Reid confirmed that he called the 49ers "multiple times" to try and trade for Alex Smith. We had heard this before, first from Trent Dilfer who labeled it a "courtship" at one point earlier, but this is the first time (as far as I know) that Reid has acknowledged it.

Just today I was talking with another media member about the game and I made note that I don't think enough people realize that Reid has wanted Smith for a while now, like he's been envisioning what he could do.

This little nugget of information makes me feel good about Reid's vision.

Also interesting: Is this why the price on Alex Smith was so high? A second round pick in 2013 and another high conditional pick in 2014. Because the 49ers knew that Reid had wanted him in the past? That sure would explain it.

2. Great quote from Alex Smith: "We'd love to stick it to everybody who thought we couldn't do it, he and I included." Alex Smith isn't the type of say anything controversial but he also doesn't give your stock answers. He puts some thought into it, which is why I like listening to him talk.

3. Reid goes over every play of every practice with the offense. He did not do that last year in Philly. That's part of this theme that Reid is back to coaching this year, and not worrying about the front office stuff.

Am sure this was brought up in the meetings with Andy Reid and Clark Hunt who he wanted for a quarterback. As an owner he has claimed his belief with building the team through the draft, what a crock of shit.

well, Andy got his wish. We shall see how it all pans out...

I just want this team to start drafting QBs. Even if they're not 1st round. I've compromised my wishes so goddamn much with this team it makes me sick, but I've got nowhere else to go.

Reid and Dorsey both got a huge dose of the Ron Wolf QB school that I really really hope this is what we do. Draft a guy every year. Even just a 7th rounder who won't stick. Doesn't matter. Keep digging under rocks to find QB talent. NEVER be content with what you have, even if it's a good situation.

A 13-year period that involves drafting only 3 QBs must never happen again to this franchise.

I know that if I were a coach, I would absolutely want to tie myself to a proven game-manager.

Smith:Okay, what?
Reid:If someday when we are older, and I get fired from the Eagles because I refuse to make any concessions to my offensive gameplan, and you eventually get replaced by an upcoming young talent because you fail to live up to your number one draft status while having numerous physical limitations, we should....I dunno, get hitched! I mean, it would be fun! Whaddya say?
Smith: (giggles) Sure, why the heck not?

Then you take those shitty quarterbacks and trade them to dumb teams like the Chiefs for premium draft picks.

This totally shoots the theory that Smith was available for a 4th rounder last off season to shit.
Reid decides he didnt want to give up a 4th but he will drop 2, 2s?.....no.

People are quick to shit on Michael Vick around here, but there's nothing wrong with Reid's other project, Alex Smith.
