For the second time in three weeks, Justin Houston is being honored for his work after a Kansas City Chiefs victory. The NFL announced on Wednesday that Houston has been named the AFC defensive player of the week following his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles last Thursday.

This is fitting considering we just watched "Derrick Thomas: A Football Life" last night.

Clearly, this is deserved. All Houston did was force a fumble, record seven tackles, two fumble recoveries, three passes defensed and sacked quarterback Michael Vick 4.5 times. 4.5! That moves his total to 7.5 sacks on the season, which means he is the NFL sack leader at the moment. He had three sacks against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the season opener.

We were all thinking / hoping that Houston would have a huge breakout year and our hopes appear to be coming true. Houston has had 11 games in which he sacked a quarterback, and seven of those games included more than one sack. So he usually doesn't just stop at one.

He's a monster. And he's been fun to watch.

Also, here's a headline you don't want to see the week before you play Justin Houston: "For Giants o-line, blocking is a lost art"

Same time, same place next week?

What will he do this week against another Rookie-that has already struggled, at home, against an 0-3 team??

Will Houston be adding to this next week?

Okay, yeah. Duh.

Good for him I thought Dustin Colquitt would get it.

Obvious award is obvious.

Does he get to double digits by the end of Game 4?

I'm going with a solid yes.

Guy is making a serious early case for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. No shit.

Better start thinking about locking him up for the long term RIGHT MEOW.

I'd love to read on national media sites that Houston is on pace to rack up 40+ sacks for the season

I like Houston. I have his shirt and am a huge Georgia fan. That said, let's see him win defensive player of the week when he's not going against a rookie tackle.

Two awards vs. two rookies.

You have to figure that he's going to be the focus of game planning going forward, which hopefully means that other folks will get more opportunities.

But even double-teaming him won't make a difference, because he's the Next Defensive Superstar.

Wow I hope so! I am sure they will try and double him which leaves Poe with just the Center. :p

Hali is due.
