91-0 Texas HS football blowout leads to bullying charge from a concerned parent
Bullying or no?
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highsc...101510025.html . Aledo's 91-0 victory was so dominant an opposing parent filed a bullying charge — BearcatBoosters.org Each week there are football blowouts across the nation. Rarely are they more one-sided than the 91-0 rout Aledo High (Aledo, Tex.) put on Western Hills High (Fort Worth, Tex.). Now, one parent has apparently been so concerned by the final scoreline that they took the extraordinary step of filing an official bullying report with the school district because of the thrashing. As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and other Dallas-area outlets, the official bullying report was filed by a Western Hills parent on Saturday, hours after the final whistle ended the most one-sided game so far this year in the Lone Star state. Texas regulations require Aledo's principal to launch a full investigation into the bullying allegation. The administration is then to produce a written report addressing the bullying complaint. If it was surprising that Aledo racked up 91 points on Friday, it was no shock that their win was a dominant one. The Bearcats are among the state's most powerful squads year-in, year-out. Friday's victory improved the team's record to 7-0, with Aledo now averaging a whopping 69 points per game. They've outscored their district foes by an incredible 77 points-per-game. In the immediate aftermath of the most recent rout, both coaches agreed that there was no intention of the near 100-point gap in the scoreline. The two coaches spoke to the Star-Telegram about the blowout, and in a unique twist both expressed a sincere sense of regret about the way the game played out. In particular, Aledo coach Tim Buchanan spoke to multiple outlets asserting that his team's frequent blowouts have become a source of embarrassment for the program. "I think the game was handled fine," [Western Hills coach John] Naylor said. "They're No. 1 for a reason, and I know coach Buchanan. We're fighting a real uphill battle right now. "We just ran into a buzzsaw, you know," Naylor said. "[Aledo] just plays hard. And they’re good sports, and they don’t talk at all. They get after it, and that’s the way football is supposed to be played in Texas." "I'm upset about [the bullying report]," controversial Aledo coach Tim Buchanan told the Star-Telegram. "I don't like it. I sit there the whole third and fourth quarter and try to think how I can keep us from scoring. "I looked around [after Friday's victory] and asked, 'Is there anyone here that feels good?'" |
How do you stop bullying....YOU stand up to them....you don't have your mom do it. Frankly that kid just had his life ruined more than any football game ever could have.

Don't like it - make a stop.

In football, especially at the HS level, it's playing half speed that gets you hurt.
If they're not throwing a wall of trickeration out there, and are just playing hard solid fundamental football, I have absolutely no problem. |
When I saw this headline-my first thought was-
Bullying? Really? Again, many issues that led to this being a bad situation. Someone, a coach, AD, administrator, should have stepped up and called the game at half. But this is not bullying. The state put them in that district. They are good. (info from another source) Next year, send them to another more competitive district. |

We are raising a nation of entitled pussies. |

So wait. Texas has a rule that says any person can say OMG BULLY, and an investigation MUST be launched?
TEXAS? |
Aledo is a four-time Texas H.S. state champion. 1998, 2009, 2010, 2011. They're going to tear some ass once in a while.

Investigation results:
1. The other team sucked. The end. |
I heard on ESPN that the winning coach had taken the option to allow time to run during all his team's possessions during the second half. What else was he supposed to do, tell the third string players to try their best?

I knew a guy who stood up to a bully. All of the Bully's friends ganged up and gave him a 15 on 1 beating that left him mentally reeruned. Bullies are not cowards. Bullies are bullies because they know they have the power to do it. Most bullies are not tough. They just have more friends. This has nothing, at all, to do with bullying either. |

EDIT No I don't think this is bullying. I do, however, think it is ridiculous to not call the game when it gets that out of hand. |
