Dexter McCluster or Tyler Lockett?

Just pure bored dreaming speculation here.....

We're about to pick in the third round in next year's draft. Tyler Lockett is on the board. Do we take him if it means we cut McCluster lose? What say you, ChiefsPlanet?

Bowser 11-04-2013 01:31 AM

I should add that I am not necessarily a McCluster hater. The guy is having a good year, certainly better than I thought he would. That drop today was gut wrenching - he should have dropped and gave the coaches twenty for that one.

I've caught a few K-State games this year, and Lockett is just a playmaker on a team that doesn't have many. I could see him being the Dex option in this offense easily, and it doesn't hurt that he seemingly has better hands and speed.

Like I said, just bored speculation. Typing out loud if you will.

well, since he will be a UDFA why not just have them both?

2 problems:

1) he's a junior.
2) Lockett has injury issues. Has not made it through an entire college football season yet. He's a great talent for a slot receiver. Amazing hands and great speed and quickness, runs great routes. Better return abilities than McCluster. Just need to see him stay healthy and he could be dangerous.

* He runs great routes and has a knack for creating just enough seperation to get to the ball
* He's quick, but not track star fast
* He has phenomenal hands
* He's smart and a great student of the game
* If the ball is near him, he always comes down with it - especially in the endzone.
* As P-90 Rex states, he does have an issue with injuries. He's not a big kid, and the injuries would be my biggest concern in the NFL

Thanks. Would have sworn he was a senior.

I tried all I could to find a suitable replacement from KU for McCluster. The internets scolded me harshly.

If Lockett plays like Sproles then absolutely !!! I don't follow college closely so is Lockett the real deal in the slot position in the NFL you think?

Yes, except the injury issues. If that issue is resolved, dude could be a great mid/late round pickup (4th/5th) in 2015.
