X and O Guys - How Did Denver Just Shut down the Chiefs Blitz?
All with football acumen please help me understand. Why didn't the Chiefs Defense touch 5 head, neck bone at least once or twice?
|
According to ESPN, we only blitzed on 6 passing plays. Not hard to stop a blitz that doesn't exist.
|
The ball comes out before our guys take 4-5 steps that's the main thing
|
Decent blocking and quick releases by Manning. He hurried his throws instead of taking the hits.

Little to no blitzing
Quick Denver throws A shitload of non called holding About sums it up... |
2 words:
Peyton. Manning. The guy is a master at reading a defense and getting the ball out almost instantly. |
You can't really blitz Manning. He destroys blitzes. That's the one thing Romeo understood from being in New England. Patriots didn't blitz him... they pressured him but kept guys in coverage and let robot Manning take over.
That said... seemed like we tried to overload one side of the line a bunch of times tonight, and it never worked. Takes way too long for the outside rusher to loop inside, he'd get rid of the ball. And even when he didn't it didn't seem like we could get there. |

I've seen this team sack Manning and then have him burn us for big yards on the next play. The defense kept them in the game about as well as you can when playing Manning. Julian Thomas got away with a pushoff big time on that long pass play and a Manning got bailed out by a couple of phantom defensive holding calls.
|
We didn't blitz. We should have though.

One thing I did notice is that Tamba was held, again, on a non-call early that set the tone. It's just amazing how it went from ownage to nothing. |
