Before watching, I'm going to say this: It's gonna be tough to top the Pulp Fiction scene.
Watching all three now. |
inb4 Rain Man
Pulp Fiction gets my vote. |
Okay, this is one of the strongest heats in the entire tournament so far. These scenes could conceivably have met in the Final Four and I wouldn't be surprised. But random luck makes them collide now, so here's my votes:
#1 - Pulp Fiction. This may be the horse I ride to the championship. It's hard to beat this scene. But I just noticed something. What's that big puff of smoke on the left side of the screen about 48 seconds into the scene? #2 - Raiders of the Lost Ark. I've seen a thousand fight scenes, and Indiana did what I always thought should be done. Awesome scene, and one of my favorites. But this heat is war. #3 - American Psycho. Very good scene. Very good. But it's competing with epic in this heat. |

Raiders scene was funny, but Pulp Fiction scene is wonderful. It gets my vote.
Allow me to explain my problem with the American Psycho scene. It's great. It's funny, and it's fine acting. However, the whole time I'm watching, I can't stop thinking to myself that the precautions he's taken to keep the killing clean aren't nearly enough. That blood is going to soak right through that newspaper, and even if he's got plastic underneath it, the blood spray radius from the blow with the axe is gonna spread way further than what he has set up. I can't keep myself from thinking about that stuff, and it almost ruins the scene for me. |
Similar to Flybone's issue with American Psycho, I've never figured out what the villagers are doing after Indy shoots the ninja guy. It looks like they're celebrating, but I don't know why. Was the ninja guy terrorizing them first or something?

Movie trivia. The reason Indy pulled out his gun and shot him was that Ford didn't feel good on set that day and just wanted to end the scene. It wasn't in the script.

Still not as good as "Say what again!" though. |
How are you able to run a business and have the time for this??
