Coaching has improved

While the Chiefs did get off to a very ugly start, I have to give it to the coaching staff that they have shown some big improvements over last season.

I would say that the best, and the biggest change this season is the rotation of players, on both sides of the ball. Last season, Sutton coordinated this defense like it was a Madden contest with the fatigue turned off. We rarely saw anyone come out of the game, and in the fourth quarter the guys were just worn out.

This year looks a lot different. We've still got guys going full steam in the fourth, and even though we don't have the greatest players at some positions, having fresh legs can often times make a huge difference in the caliber of play.

Offensively, I haven't seen that much creativity with the playcalling and the formations since Vermiel and Saunders were here. I saw plays last night that Ive NEVER seen the Kansas City Chiefs run, and many of them were big plays.

If this is a sign of things to come, where our offense and our "game manager" quarterback can roll up over 300 yards of offense in ONE HALF against what was supposed to be the main strength of the opposing team, we have a chance to be a pretty scary team down the road.

Clock management in the 2-4 minute range is still God Awful, and I just cant understand why. Clearly Andy Reid is a smart guy. You know how long your plays should take to get communicated, and then executed. How you just let 30 seconds burn off the clock before you spend a timeout when you have an opportunity to score on a defense that has shown NO ability to stop you whatsoever is just beyond me.

The Chiefs are clearly still a work in progress, but Im definitely liking what Im seeing. Constant switching of personell and formations on offense to keep the defense reacting instead of attacking, and a damn solid rotation on defense to keep our guys fresh and able to attack even late into the fourth quarter.

I agree. Still a long way from seeing the finished product, but headed in a seemingly positive direction. I wonder about clock management if Andy just gets too flustered trying to pick the right play and personel with time dwindling. Aside from that he's had extremely goo game planning over the last 3 weeks. Not sure what the hell was happening in the Ten game. Now excited to see how we match up against SF. I think Andy will have a good gameplan in place. Which should be HEAVY doses of Charles/Davis

I agree with the clock management statement. It fell apart right before the half. It's like Andy panics.

Yeah, Andy being Andy with that halftime clock management. That was a disaster.

good play calling most of the night, I credit the large showing in the chat room for that.

Did you catch Chucky saying that "fans in Philly were scratching their heads about now"(?) in regards to Reid being more diverse in his playcalling?

Andy finally realized that, outside of Bowe, his receivers are junk... ran it 34 times last night, gotta love it.

Yep. That has also enabled Kelse to BLOW UP!

Yes, all the formations and personnel grouping had me thinking "where the hell was this the first few weeks??" Hope they keep it going.

I like how we do the most damage under balanced a run/pass attack, then just pound it the last couple quarters to put the game away.

Running backs, tight ends, and Bowe... I'm good with that for this year.

Plenty of run plays really seems to keep Smith comfortable, he had a killer completion % last night.

no but that's an appropriate observation.

They have changed but last year we were successful for awhile too before the league adjusted. Will our coaches/team be able to adjust throughout the season or are they just stuck in the a new scheme?

I don't think that Kelce, as he improves, is going to be a player that can just be "adjusted" to. He has the potential to be physically dominant just like a healthy Gronk and Graham.

Kelce's got some moves. If he develops his hands, he'll be a bigger threat than Gonzo ever was.
