Running back played eight games in Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns have waived running back Ben Tate. General manager Ray Farmer made the announcement.
"With all the transactions we make while constructing our roster, it will always be our intent to do what is best for our football team," said Farmer. "This move is no different and we wish Ben the best going forward."
Tate averaged 3.1 yards per carry and scored four touchdowns in eight games with the Browns. Tate topped 100 yards rushing one time, in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans.
The move obviously comes as an initial surprise until you uncover the surface. The Browns traded up to nab Terrance West in the draft and feel strong about his progression. Further, Isiah Crowell has been a diamond in the rough. The pair of rookies have combined for 766 yards and eight touchdowns.
Coach Pettine and the offensive staff will continue to take a week-by-week approach at the running back position.
“We also look at running styles against a particular opponent,” said Pettine. “You look at the game. These are the runs that we have for this game plan. Who executes these particular runs the best? It’s more than just, ‘Hey, he looked better in practice than he did.’ Sometimes it’s a style matchup decision.”
The move also points towards reserve running back Glenn Winston earning a look. The former Michigan State prodcut been a special teams stalwart in the few games he’s been called up. The Browns claimed Winston from the 49ers prior to the start of the 2014 season.
Cleveland will travel to Atlanta on Sunday to take on the Falcons.

He's pretty talented. His injury history is the thing limiting him.

This, AND the fact that he is VERY vocal about his lack of playing time. He did the same thing in Houston. I'd like to have him because he'd get healthy sitting behind JC and Nile. I bet he ends up in Baltimore with Kubiak again.

Kubiak, sounds about right.

Hehe. The man is back. For the record. I hated that signing. So glad he is gone.

The Franchise 11-18-2014 02:46 PM

He'll go to Indy.
