Beer distributor job
Anyone ever work for a beer distributor? Apparently working in the warehouse they pay you per case of beer you pull and there are no set hours. You're just there until you get done. would you be working 12 hours days and barely making anything?

A guy that I used to work with that did this for a while. Sounded like he spent a lot of time getting hammered while working, so I guess that could be a plus or minus depending on what your goals are. He was a route drive from what I recall, so they'd get there and load their trucks up and then deliver all over BFE while drinking some with the bar owners in between.
Of course, this is all second hand information, but he wasn't much of a bull-shitter. |
You'll get to work about 4 am to load those trucks

My roommate back in the 70's worked for a beer distributor. They would go out and deliver to bars and liquor stores picking up the damaged at each location. The damaged went back to the distributor and was available to the employees in the break room after shift ended. When I say damaged it was broken open boxes or dented cans. You could drink all ya wanted. But he was always worn out from horsing a hand truck up and down narrow stairwells downtown KC and Westport so didn't take real advantage of it.

If you work hard, I'm sure you can make decent money.

When I worked the warehouse at a beer distributor I was paid hourly. We would start at like 6 PM and work until we were done. Some nights I would head home by midnight, other nights I was there until the sun came up. I enjoyed it pretty well but it was a pretty small outfit and 2 of us loaded the 4 or 5 delivery trucks that went out on routes the next day.

Sounds like a pretty physical job. Hope you're in shape.

A little different but along the same lines I use to drive a truck for pepsi and deliver their shit. It was physical but I was 20 at the time so that was never really an issue for me. I always say that was a fun job just getting to know everyone on the routes. I would think a beer deliver guy would have been better but it probably would have got me in more trouble.

especially considering if you're .04 or over on BAC with a CDL....you're fooked.

I have a few buddies who used to have routes and made pretty decent money doing it

Sounds like my jobs at EFD and UPS. The weight limit on those boxes at EFD was 100 lbs. I weighed 125. Lotsa car parts. Dropped an axel on my toe 2nd day I was there. To this day my toenail won't grow.
Loved that job. |
never worked for, but did some work at a couple. seemed like a pretty happy bunch.
pretty good friends w/one of the drivers. sometimes he'd see my truck when unloading at a store and he'd usually throw a 12 pack w/a damaged carton in my truck. then he retired to be a farmer and help raise his kids. it's a shame his priorities got jacked up like that, but what the hell. sec |
