Advice on protecting a paintjob
1 Attachment(s)
My astrophotography student surprised me with this really cool mural for helping her this year with her astrophotography work. She got rave reviews on the Department of Interiors site for some of her images.
Anyway she did this awesome mural for me on the side of my Astrovan with nothing but spray paint cans in a 30 mph wind. Given the wildly gusty wind I can't believe it looks this good and even better in person. So how do I protect it from fading / chipping off. I saw lots of products for taking paint off of metal (graffiti) but not really any good advice I could find on how to make it last. Thanks for the ideas 1...2...3... antifreeze! |
Very cool.

Take it to a body shop, get clear coated?

I'm thinking Rustoleum clear. She used Rustoleum paints. |
I figured Jason or somebody will know for sure.

I am no expert at all but run it by a reputable paint shop see what they suggest. Maybe a compatible clearcoat but you will need to know what kind canned paint she used.

Boar seamen works well, from what I hear.

If it's enamel, it doesn't need clearcoat.
but, if you are worried about it, use KRYLON clear., and get the handle for rattle cans for even application. colors that tend to fade from the sun are usually red and yellow., blues and blacks hold up pretty well in the elements. |
She actually did that herself? Impressive.

3M makes a coating that goes on the front of a car to stop it from chipping.
It might be able to be applied to the side. It would take some professional work, but worth a conversation with someone. |

This guy is a little off but he is highly recommended by everyone. He protects paint like no other.

Did the paint fade or the covering discolor? I think they may put it on more cars here because 3M is based here. |
