Your favorite play in football.
I gotta say that my favorite play is the sack, especially from a defensive tackle.
The idea of having the athleticism, power, and technique to beat a super athletic 330 lbs lineman to get to a quarterback soon enough to prevent a pass by overpowering him and throwing him to the ground just seems like an impossible task. Especially from the interior of the line. Even moreso when the quarterback is athletic or built like a tank. I still contend that the best sack I've ever seen, from any player, ever, was Derrick Johnson's sublime "rodeo sack" of Roethlisberger back when the Chiefs upset the Steelers at Arrowhead in 2009. I've lost the YouTube to it -- I'll rep anybody who can dig it up. But it was truly a work of freaking art. What's your favorite type of play on the football field? |
Power.
Down blocks across the line, kick out by the backside guard. RB goes for 3-4 yards. Warms my heart. Second to that is a good wrong-arm on a puller. Gutsy. |
Nothing like a triple option play when everything works out perfectly from the blocking to the pitch, etc.
Second would be a play action pass that's completed for a deep ball... |

Also, the Pack's power sweep in the 60s was just a thing of beauty to watch. |
An ILB blowing up a lead blocker and clogging the hole is awesome to watch.
A DE or OLB setting an edge (through the blockers teeth and out his asshole) gives me butterflies. |
Steve DeBerg's play action passes. How many times did he fool the cameraman and the entire opponent's D?

Don't know of one particular play, but this was fun to go back and watch

Play action deep ball on 2nd and 1. I wish we'd try it at least one out of every three times we're in that situation.
|
Sprint option play action pass. Nothing better then watching safeties run up to defend the boundaries, then realise that the tightend is wide open.
Georgia Techs Paul Johnson offense is fun to watch when its hitting on all 8 cylinders. |
circa 2003 KC Chiefs sweep plays. The blocking was a thing of beauty.

Agreed on double wing stuff. Poetry.

I'm surprised nobody said Spider 2 Y Banana

Totally the bubble screen. Love it.
