INDIANAPOLIS – The Kansas City Chiefs have three safeties scheduled to become unrestricted free agents when the league’s new calendar year begins on March 9.

And at least one of the three players is confirmed to be on the radar while the Chiefs are at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Chiefs have expressed interest in bringing back Tyvon Branch, a source on Thursday told ChiefsDigest.com and The Topeka Capital-Journal. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Chiefs don’t comment on contract negotiations.

The 29-year-old Branch played seven seasons with the Oakland Raiders before signing a one-year contract with the Chiefs in 2015.

The signing was viewed as a “prove it” deal after Branch suffered a broken leg in 2013 and a foot injury in 2014, injuries that caused him to appear in just five games during that span.

Branch, however, arguably did his part to prove his worth to the Chiefs the past season.

He appeared in all 16 games with one start on 428 total defensive snaps. Branch produced 40 tackles (33 solo), an interception returned for a touchdown, a fumble returned for a touchdown and four passes defensed.

Along with Branch, the other Chiefs safeties scheduled to become free agents are Eric Berry and Husain Abdullah.

Not a fan of Branch. He has a limited skill set and not much range.

I Hope we bring him back Raider Fans still pissed off about his season here last year.

When healthy, he's our 2nd best safety.

Berry
Branch
Parker (parker still learning though)
Abdullah

Sometimes I wonder if people here actually watch and understand the game. Instead of watching and coming to your own conclusion, they concentrate of the chicken little opinions that anything short of a total house cleaning is a bad thing. Parker was kept because of his versatility more than a prime time play maker. He's not making premier money, and does a solid job at multiple positions.

Mother****erJones 02-26-2016 06:11 PM

Parker was one of our MVPs last year on defense. When Gaines got hurt, he stepped in at nickel. He makes some terrific plays. Some of you really don't watch the games and only look at box scores.

I shit in a box put an old raider jersey over it and lit it on fire until it burned down to carbon

Bring it in for a look

On prospect artsy folks call that making charcoal
