Pro Bowl FS Reggie Nelson Still Available

Yeah, he's up there in age, but he tied with Marcus Peters for most INTs last year and made the Pro Bowl. No sign of slowing down. I suspect that he'd love playing with Eric Berry and Marcus Peters. Hell of a secondary. Time to kick the tires on a proven veteran leader that's still playing at a Pro Bowl level?

Interceptions - 8
Tackles - 52
Assisted Tackles - 25
Combined Tackles - 77

(Karmic twist: He recently said, “I love playing for KC.” when talking about DB coach, Kevin
Coyle.)

The Cincinnati Bengals have, shockingly, allowed veteran free safety Reggie Nelson to remain on the free agent market for nearly three weeks now. Considering Nelson is coming off of a career year in which he led the NFL in interceptions, it is even more shocking that a team in need of a safety has not scooped him up.

The Bengals made the wise decision to re-sign young strong safety George Iloka very early in the free agent signing period, but 32-year-old Nelson still has a lot left in the tank.

The Bengals are definitely deep at defensive back, but Nelson provides a veteran presence that cannot be found just anywhere. He was a defensive captain for the Bengals this past season and was a certified ball hawk in the secondary from start to finish.

Several teams have been linked to Nelson, mostly because it is hard not to link a team to a star player who recently made the Pro Bowl, but the Bengals are surely still talking with him. It remains to be seen whether anything substantial will come of those talks, as the Bengals have been engaged in heavy discussions with other free agents this past week. However, they would be foolish to play a game of cat and mouse with Nelson.

Not only would it be extremely disrespectful to a player who has worn the Cincy stripes with pride for six seasons now, but it would also be too risky. There is no way that Reggie Nelson will remain unsigned for much longer, so the Bengals must make it a priority to bring him back to Cincinnati as soon as possible.

Sure why not?

Can't see it happening though

Would love it. Nelson and Berry as our safeties? Sign me up. Might be more money than Dorsey wants to throw at the safety position, but it would be a hell of a defensive backfield.

It would give more flexibility to Parker and insurance at our corner position. Not sure why he's still on the market.

Maybe because his age? or the Bengals know something that other teams don't know.

Having the two leading int leaders from last year in the same backfield would be BALLS !

True, maybe he's asking too much, as well?

He surely doesn't expect a 5 year 50 million salary at age 32

I would think we have a shot. We're going to replace Sean Smiths salary with a Rookie salary anyway.

ChiefAshhole1056 03-28-2016 10:26 AM

He probably isn't seeing the salary he wants to see after coming off the year he had. His side sees "Pro-Bowl safety", the other sees "Old-ass safety".

RunKC 03-28-2016 10:31 AM

Jamel Fleming and Daniel Sorenson seem to be their guys. I hope we draft a developmental pick tho

Mr. Laz 03-28-2016 11:13 AM

If they plan on leaving Ron Parker at CB there is a need.

There has to be some of this.

He's probably trying to get the last payday and is trying to get 10-ish million per.

Anyone that has had him in for a physical knows what the Bengals know. He is a mess physically.

Link? Dude missed one game in the last 3 years and played in the Pro Bowl last year. Methinks you have bad data.
