Pokemon Go: Augmented Reality (AR) Game For Your Smart Phone
To Be The Very Best: Pokémon Enters Into Augmented Reality
June 30, 20169:01 AM ET Gabriel Rosenberg http://media.npr.org/assets/img/2016...3-s800-c85.jpg Halfway through your walk to school, a wild Charmander appears. Just a few throws of a Pokéball, and it could be yours. Will you stop to catch it? Nintendo is betting you will. Not just that, they're betting that you've waited most of your life to see a Pokémon in the real world. Pokémon Go — the upcoming iOS and Android app from Nintendo, The Pokémon Co., and developer Niantic Labs — promises to let anyone with a smart phone "find" and train the diverse creatures of Pokémon all around them. For aspiring Trainers, it could be an entirely new way to interact with a now 20-year-old franchise. For these companies, though, Pokémon Go — which launches for free sometime in July — offers the biggest opportunity yet to bring augmented reality into the mainstream, a chance to prove not only that AR technology is ready for people, but that people are ready for AR. http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechc...-the-very-best I thought it was an interesting idea, AR rather than VR. I've seen lots of apps that kind of do this already-mostly playing with pictures to add makeup or special effects. I'm not fond of the Pokemon craze but a Google Maps type of integration and ( I assume) a way of monetizing the app by opening it up to sponsored locations sounds intriguing. |
Will this thing ever come out?

Hopefully. They say July. |
I'll probably try it out to fart around and see how far along AR has come on a simplistic scale.

Have you ever looked at Ingress? It is the same engine repurposed into something more easily marketed.

I was in the closed beta. This game sucks ass.

Oh, it's on bitches
|
Imma wait till they polish it.

Severs keep going down...waste of time so far.

I tried it and can't get it to work at all. I'll revisit again later to see if they can deliver a functional app.

This has been all OVER social media the last few days. I wouldn't be surprised if they are partnered with Facebook and twitter to artificially feed people more 'stories' and posts about the game.

It's free and fun. My dog is enjoying her 15 miles of walks a day now lol.
I'm pretty sure that I'm one of the top players due to not having to work and the game not taking much skill. |
There are about 15 gyms I can walk to and my Pidgeot is one of the highest levels possible and I've taken every single gym I've come across. I don't leave the Pidgeot at the gyms so I don't hold onto them, but I gain a shit lid of level stealing gyms from other teams. I went out at 6 am this morning and got back at 8 am and took 4 gyms along the way.

Side note, Year 2 "Moments of Triumph" just dropped for Destiny. Since you have the free time, probably worth you logging in for a few days and knocking them out. |
