The Mighty Eighth

The third Hanks/Spielberg series on WWII coming in 2019. Comes after Band of Brothers and The Pacific. This about the Eighth Air Force flying out of England for bombing raids over Germany. Looks awesome.

This has been talked about and in development for years. Good to see it's underway.

I think I've mentioned this on CP before, but if you're ever in the Savannah, GA, area, even if you're just driving by on I-95, I urge you to stop and visit the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum there.

It'll come down to casting, IMO.

There were definitely diminishing returns on The Pacific even though it's every bit as fascinating a story. I was just never as vested in the characters as I was in Winters, Nix, Malark, Shifty, Bull, Buck, Lipton, Guarnere, Spiers, etc...

That was the casting; we cared about those guys because the actors made us care about them.

*2... I can rewatch BoB over and over... Pacific. Not so much. It's just different.

Loved Band of Brothers. Pacific was a major let down. It was not bad, but expectations were incredibly high after Brothers.

The problem (if you can even call it that) with The Pacific was that it followed too many storylines. BoB was about one company, with one main character throughout. Pacific had three central characters and as a result is far more disjointed. IMO, Eugene Sledge is the most compelling character in Pacific, but he just doesn't get enough screen time.

It's kind of brutal getting compared to BoB, though. Frankly, I think that's the best thing that's ever been on television. Pacific only pales in comparison to that. It's still an excellent miniseries with the same high production standards.
