This post is also a reminder of how many damn Alex homers there are. What is the average chiefs fans obsession with overdefending nice guy qbs. Nice doesn't win super bowls, unless it comes with talent to play football.

Meh. He still has the talent to win a SB. I don't even think he needs top weapons to do it... just targets that know where to be and can catch well.
Unfortunately, what he does need is a strong offensive line. Not even top 10.. but not far off. He simply has too much old baggage to ever develop into the fearless gunslinger I hoped he would. As is, the OL he needs must be able to provide balance in the run game. They don't need to open up huge lanes and grant him 150 yds a game.. but how bout 80 or so at a 4 ypc-ish clip? and how bout they be able to pass protect even in times where a D knows we are passing?
.. but sadly and admittedly.. he still looks to be a QB that can not thrive unless he has the above things going for him.
It's everyone's individual choice whether to hate him for needing what he needs to thrive. It's everyone's individual choice in whether they want to blame him, or blame the weaker areas of the team that are not doing much to support such a QB. It's everyone's individual choice whether to justly allocate blame to a HC that still insists he is the best QB option... or to keep on blaming the player for giving what he's got.
If I were Andy Reid, I would do a few things differently.
1. More I-form play-action with (of course) Sherman on the field.
2. Do not forget to give Hunt carries.. but let the PA pass game open things up early on.. then start pounding in more runs.
3. Make it clear to Smith in private that he must work out his (and fellow receivers') issues right away.. and this extends to his own pocket composure. That he is on a short leash to do so.. and the next game is critical to whether he goes out in a last glorious blaze, or finishes things off holding a clipboard.
There has to be more to it than this CP concept of wide open targets all over that Smith just refuses to see or throw to. If it were so clear and obvious, there's just no way Smith would still be allowed to go out there week after week.
No doubt about the bottom line though.. he DOES need to play better and right now.. or he can and should rightly **** off.
