I went back and forth between at halftime and after. I'd really like to say before, but if the conditions are like the Giants game, maybe it's best to see how it goes in the first half. If all hope is lost, so what, make the change. There is some credence to waiting for the last 4 games, 3 at home.

Patrick Mahomes II made guys like De'Anthony Thomas look good in preseason. He can make more guys look good including this line.

I hate these weak arguments against starting Mahomes.

“What if it destroys Mahomes mentally?”

Then he isn’t the guy if he’s that mentally weak. Better to find out sooner rather than later.

“What if he struggles and we miss the playoffs?”

What about how bad Alex is struggling? We’re well on our way to choking away the division as it is.

“What about Alex’s numbers for the season?”

What about Alex’s numbers over the last 6 games and his previous seasons? The first 5 games of the season were the illusion, not the last 6. His numbers in the last 6 have been padded by fluky plays like the deep TD to Wilson against Oakland and the “Hill Mary” too. His numbers could be even worse.

“What if Mahomes struggles and it ruins him?”

It didn’t seem to ruin Jared Goff. Even if he struggles, he has the offseason to work on his issues. If he doesn’t get any playing time, then he doesn’t know where he’ll struggle in actual games.

“What about Alex’s trade value?”

He’s killing his value by playing. Bench him now while some teams still remember Weeks 1-5.
