Downtown KC Street Car

This is new since the last time I stayed downtown. Am I reading right that it's free? Anyone here use it? Just doing some planning on a possible trip, and wanted to get an idea on if we could skip driving certain places.

It's free. Great investment by KC. Park at City Market and pretty much go anywhere along Main between there and Union Station.

stay at crown center you can walk over to union station and take the entire 2 mile loop up to river market and back

it's free but slow AF never on time wouldn't ride if it's freezing cold unless you dont mind waiting around for 45 mins.

I love it. Whenever there is something going on at the Sprint Center or Power and Light, I just park at City Market and take the street car over there. About a 10 minute ride, and free parking. Never forget where you are parked.

Boyfriend works for hospitality management company, so he gets a hefty discount. We can stay at Hotel Phillips for $55 or a little further north at a Hampton Inn in the financial district for $35. Both really close to Grand. Wanting to eat in the Crossroads and go to Legoland/Union Station area. We'll have a 3-year-old, so also want to make sure it's kid friendly.

Learn that lesson the hard way?

As with any urban amenity,, "kid Friendly" is going to be all about what you are comfortable with. is there a chance that there is a homeless dude on the car? Yeah. But it's pretty rare that I have seen mass murderers or hanging cutlery in them. So Id say you're fine. I take my daughter on them, but she can be a snot sometimes... so sometimes you roll the dice.

I know some folks in the midwest hear light rail or public transport and shudder, but on my recent trip to Seattle I rode their light rail from the airport to downtown. For $3 it was an amazing value, and I wish we could do something similar from JOCO to downtown KC.

I used it daily for almost a year before I moved away from KC. It saved me well over a grand in parking.

It's nice! Public transit is good!

jjjayb 03-13-2019 03:51 PM

What does the street car accomplish that the bus system didn't? Besides the fact that people can feel hip and urban riding a street car?

suzzer99 03-13-2019 03:51 PM

I'm guessing less piss-soaked bums screaming obscenities at you than on the bus?

KCUnited 03-13-2019 03:57 PM

Maybe it was an off day when I saw it, but I could've walked faster without much exertion. I guess maybe in bad weather it could be convenient.
