High School football state championship. Tell me about Odessa, class 3A team
My hometown Cassville Wildcats are headed to the state Championship to face Odessa next week. I believe that's a KC area school. I was just wondering if any of you are familiar with the program. What kind of game should I expect? In the last 2 weeks, Cassville has knocked of reigning class 2 champ Blair Oaks at their stadium and reigning class 3 champion Trinity Catholic at home. I was really surprised to see our small town team win today. Those guys were huge compared to our guys. But they did it. Trinity had been putting 30+ points a game up and Cassville shut them out 13-0. Can they do it against Odessa?

Tough linemen. Not huge, but big, and well-coached.
Great #1 TE, and very good #2 TE. Toughest team I coached against this year. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |
I saw the scores from their games. Scoring 50, 60, even 70 points per game. That's crazy. What team do you coach Sully?

Last 2 years of playing Maryville, I thought they were tough. But this year's Odessa was a beast. Knew when we walked off the field that was probably a State Champion.
Word is, their HC wants to win this and then retire. They run or pass something like 75% to #11's side of the field (TE, but also can lone up wide or in the backfield). We knew that going in... didnt matter. Edited... #11 is the good TE. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |
He shouldn’t retire he should go coach Missouri. I bet he would be better than Saban.

They teach that the Earth is older than 600 years at Odessa.

Well, Odessa kicked our boys' butts today 49-28. It started out bad for us. Odessa returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. A couple of drives later, they scored in 6 seconds on am 80 yard pass. But, our boys fought hard all the way. They never could overcome the early deficit, but in the second half, they scored 14 and allowed 14. I'm proud of them. They were definitely overmatched by bigger and faster player's. I'm just thrilled that they made it that far.

I watched the game. I was really hoping Cassville could get the win. It was a great year of football for SWMO. I'm a Joplin fan, they lost to a semi-pro team out of St. Louis, but put up a great fight. Carthage won in OT last night and Webb won big again Friday night.

Valle catholic won again yesterday. They beat thayer (again) a few weeks ago 15-14. We’ve played them 17 times since 1981 in the state playoffs and are 2-15 against them. Dang private schools
Webb is just a machine. Ava got blown out but it was a hella year for them |
I don't know where else to post this, but I have 3 nephews on their high school team in Indiana and they made it to the state finals in class A. Had a 14pt lead at the start. Blew it. Other team looked like they were pulling away as they were up a TD in the 4th and had a bruising RB who was eating up the clock. The drive stalled and they went to kick a makeable FG with 2-3 minutes left. Hit the upright. No good.
My nephews' team drives the length of the field and scores with 10 seconds left. Do they go for the tie? Nope. They go for 2 and the win. Receiver on a crossing route uncovered. Conversion is good. State champions. It was truly awesome. |

My old high school, Platte County, got crushed in the finals by Webb City 48-0. It was their first trip to the finals after moving up to 4A. For a period of time, they ruled 3A, but then they moved up and they lost a great coach. They’ve been decent ever since, but not really a threat to win anything at the state level. For what it’s worth, Webb City also pitched a shutout in the semis, 35-0.
