The SB Hangover: Do the Chiefs experience it?

I know nobody wants to think about this. But is this possible?

Or does Mahomes/Reid and overall team chemistry factor in too big of a blockade for something like that to happen?

Does this season all things considered provide the Chiefs an advantage since they're not going through any regime changes, coordinator changes, QB changes, etc. They're returning 20/22 starters. The rookies may be behind a little but the majority of the team, mainly the important impact players, all know the system, playbook, language, etc. A team that does have to go through that is going to need that extra OTA, training camp time etc. Not saying the Chiefs don't need it too, but they can probably get by with picking up where they left off and go from there and not skip a beat IMO.

History hasn't been too kind to the team that's won the SB the previous season. Hope the Chiefs can overcome that bad luck mojo much like they did the Madden curse.

No. The leadership on this team is just too good.

Andy, Pat, Landlord, Clark

These guys are not going to let that shit happen

This.

Have you been watching our guys training and pushing each other.

It's amazing

They are focused and hungry. They are far above and ahead a lot of other teams in making another run. They know their systems.

IowaHawkeyeChief 04-30-2020 09:34 AM

No and the COVID makes it harder to get distracted with off the field stuff... errrr except Breeland.

Hydrae 04-30-2020 09:38 AM

I usually think of the SB loser when it comes to the hangover. It is amazing to me how often we see the loser not even make the playoffs the next season.

Chiefs will be fine. So much continuity and hunger still.

TribalElder 04-30-2020 09:39 AM

no hangover

we are going to 3 peat

It's very possible we go deep into the schedule chasing the Dolphins undefeated season. This is our time and will be for awhille.

Mile High Mania 04-30-2020 09:57 AM

I doubt it, they're young enough and still hungry. If KC were an older team, maybe.

Winning back-to-back is super hard. Even in their dynasty, the Patriots only did it once.

I predict that we'll be a top team and be favored to win it all, but just like this past year, you need some luck to swing your way to actually win it.

Titty Meat 04-30-2020 10:03 AM

The Chiefs are winaholics they dont get hangovers

smithandrew051 04-30-2020 10:07 AM

No. I think a lot of hangovers are just the result of an overachieving team coming back to reality.

This team is built for long term, repeatable success.

Of course, this past year we had plenty of bad luck too. Just look at all the injuries to key players. Every team has injuries, but not every team loses their QB for 3 games, their best WR for 6 (I think) games, their LT for half the season, multiple key DL throughout the year, etc.

Sure, but I'm not worried about GETTING to the playoffs. We were pretty damn healthy in the playoffs (outside of Thornhill), and I'm not counting on that happening again.

I'm not saying that we don't have a shot - just that it's VERY hard to do.

If we get the 1-seed, we’re pretty close to a lock for the Super Bowl. Two home games off a bye is as good as it gets for Reid and Mahomes.

If we have better luck with injuries in the regular season, then I absolutely believe we’ll go 14-2. That pretty much guarantees us the 1 seed and puts everyone else at a significant disadvantage.

I’m sure we’ll make the playoffs every year. The regular season injury luck will probably determine our seeding.

You are correct. Being healthy for the postseason is key.
