Sports betting legal in Kansas

TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has signed S.B. 84, which authorizes sports betting in the state.

“State officials and others say it’s not clear yet how soon the wagering could begin,” according to the Associated Press.

The bill that the governor signed today “dedicates most of the the state’s share of revenues from the new gambling to efforts to lure the Kansas City Chiefs from Missouri to the Kansas side of the metropolitan,” the AP continues.

“The new law will allow people in the state to use cellphone or computer apps to bet on sporting events and to place bets at state-owned casinos or up to 50 other locations chosen by each casino,” the AP adds.

Didn't I read somewhere that the taxes are outrageous?

It would be nice if they included horse racing pari-mutuels at the Casinos.

Kansas Residents can use some mobile apps already in Kansas, but Missouri residents would have to lie during registration. would be cool if you could go to a Kansas casino for horse race betting.

When Missouri votes for sports betting, I hope they include horse race betting. Animal athletes are people too.

I'm pretty sure you could do OTB at the Woodlands when it was open. Did they not take that with them when they opened the Hollywood at the Speedway?

About 7 minutes for me to get from my house to the state line. Lots of roadside mobile gambling at about 11:30 on Sunday mornings about to happen.

Not on the individual bettor. The casinos will pay 10% of their profits into a fund designated to attract pro sports teams (um, the Chiefs) to move to KS. But the state owns the casinos anyway out here so I think (not a fact) that basically it's just the state saying 10% of winnings will go into that fund.

The notion that the individual throwing down $100 for the Chiefs to pistol whip Denver would have to pay an additional 10% along with the vig was misguided and misunderstood.

That was The Woodlands, and they've been closed at least a decade if not longer.

I think the Kansas Law was on site horse betting allowed at a track that runs horse races, but no track is running horses now.

I think Kansas residents can get a mobile app for horse racing, for the apps licensed in Kansas.

This is great. I sent an email to Hollywood Casino about their plans and when they'll be up and running.

I was there Tuesday and they said they were still looking at option in regards to the physical book but were expecting to get to work on it immediately.
