Yesterdays loss
I think some of you are overcomplicating things here a bit, looking for a boogey man where there may not be one.
The Chiefs had 8 drives yesterday. Really 7 if you take out the end of the half one where they just wanted to get into the locker room. They scored on 4 of 7, missed a FG and fumbled. They ran for 140 yards and 2 td's. The issue wasn't the OL. The issue was the Bengals condensed the game and made it a smaller sample size. When they are able to do that, it magnifies mistakes ala the fumble, missed FG etc. You can't live with the blitz against elite QB's. |
The issue was a fumble by one of the two best players on the team. If we score a Touchdown on that drive we go up 31-20… Oh well.. Hope to see those guys again and end their season..

Here’s one thing that killed us. The Bengals, who have been a bad rushing team except against the Panthers, were able to set up second and short way too easily.

The DL was my primary concern coming into the season, but they've been a pleasant surprise, but they have a ways to go.
There's no reason to go into some of the things I would have done with the roster construction up to this point, as I can beat that dead horse in the draft forum. But after a surprising midseason increase in snaps, it's about time to put Saunders back into his rotational role, and elevate Brandon Williams to starting NT. If teams with Burrow and Allen under center can continue to chew away at our defense with the run game, we're going to get roasted against these teams again. Nick Bolton is a really good LB, but Bolton if he's clean is elite. Bolton if he's trying to slip an OL is average at best. Keep our linebackers clean. Plug in a NT. |
Even if we only get 3 on the Kelce fumble drive we still go up 7 and it changes the game. We just can’t play mistake-free football against these guys for whatever reason. It’s beyond frustrating at this point have lost 3 times to the same team in 11 months.

Yeah, no. The OL was a massive problem, especially the Ts. The Bengals consistently getting pressure rushing 3 and dropping 8 makes things incredibly difficult for Mahomes and they ended up performing badly enough that it derailed our attempt at a game winning drive.

Hate to use a cliché but we lost the game in the trenches.

Of course when you drop 8 and make the QB hold the ball you get pressure. They should have handed it off on that play and got what they could have gotten then went for it on 4th down. |
We started to figure out stuff that works towards the end. It isn’t like prior years where we were flat in second halves. Without a doubt re-training mahomes helped. But we need more playmakers. I’m confident we’ll be way better if we can get Toney and hardman in there. Much as hardman drives me nuts without a doubt we miss so much especially in the red zone with all his presnap stuff. And that’s what we can ask for. Is for our offense to play our best game. We knew when we signed up for mahomes’ long term deal we’d have to do this with offense and we’re well positioned to do that.
We really punished them when we did things besides passing. And I think the amount of misdirection we can do with Toney and hardman adds just another layer we were badly missing |
I'm not very concerned. We lost on the road to a tough team, but it was very close. A couple months ago someone started a thread asking everyone to predict the rest of the season and I predicted a loss in this game. It was the only game I expected to lose the rest of the season. If that plays out, I fully expect the Chiefs to have the #1 seed. We have the easiest part of our schedule in the next 5 games. We're sitting pretty.

ALL OF THIS! This upcoming draft this needs to be addressed! I'm all for letting OBJ walk! Move up in the draft, take the best OLT available, find a quality back up in FA. Find another quality RT in the draft! Spend the rest of the draft on DL. |
juju getting knocked out of the game made it tough too
