A Level Headed Review WK20

Sorry for the late thread. I’m out in the middle of the Atlantic at the moment enjoying cocktails.

1. Chad Freaking Henne - wow talk about CLUTCH. 98 yard drive when the Chiefs needed it the most. Some were talking about dumping him in favor of Buchele. This is why you have QBs like Henne on your roster. Nails when thrust into the unthinkable.

2. 21 MPH. That’s what Pacheco was clocked at on his 39 yard run. Just absolutely beautiful run. Been waiting for that run for quite a few weeks. He just motors with those legs like I have never seen a RB motor. He is gonna be really special when he gets the passing and protection packages down.

3. Jaylon Watson . What an incredible INT to kill the Jags drive. 2 of the biggest interceptions this year have been from 7th round pic. The Chargers pick 6 was a fore shadowing of his skills. Vurt Beach has hit grand slams with his 7th rounds picks.

4. Defense in general absolutely stepped up and shut down Jax when we needed them to. Frank Clark and Nandi with HUGE sacks at critical times. Cook showed his immaturity with the penalty but I’m sure he will be fine with more playing time and mentoring.

5. Patrick Mahomes with the balls of steel to play thru the injury. not a lot of guys would try and push thru the pain to stay in the game. It shows a lot to everyone that Pat isn’t going to quit at the first sign of trouble. Kudos to Andy for reeling him in a bit and making him fix himself before permanently wrecking himself.

6. McKinnon is an absolute beast in pass protection to call him Pats personal pass protection is an understatement. He absolutely destroyed a Jax defender on a blitz and helped keep Mahomes clean in the second half. He is a must re-sign, hopefully his little use early in his career can translate into a longer career on the backend.

7. Offensive line. They were a little rough at the beginning of the game but as soon as Pat got hurt they stepped up and provided clean pockets for Henne and Mahomes when he came back. Absolutely solid.

8. Kelce - what else is there to say? Absolute beast, another record broken. Another step closer to 1st ballot HOF career. Stepped up big to be “the guy” the offense needed to get past a good Jax team.

9. Toney. Wirey and hard to tackle. This guy is legit a crazy weapon. He had some huge plays for us and seemed to get the extra yards because he is just hard to tackle. For those of us that wrestled - you know the wirey guy is hard to take down because he contorts his body in ways were aren’t used to. That is Toney. Swart Cheech with another grand slam.

10. MVS -has been bagged on all season because of low production. All he did was catch critical first downs. Today he caught a critical TD. I’ll take this all day everyday every year. It’s clutch and sometime you just need clutch.

We were always in control of the game even with a wobbly Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes unorthodox throws really paid off because of his gimp ankle.

Our first drive we were rolling over the Jags and we could have put up a 50 burger without Mahomes getting hurt.

Not so sure. OBJ played terrible and caused Pats injury to getting beat once again.

Hence the “after the injury” part of the statement.

Special Teams needs to work on kick of coverage.

I'd like to have a game where ST comes in solid without giving the other team an edge.

Frank came up huge today.

Noah Gray played great. Kelce and Gray are a handful for defenses.

Pacheco is what this team has been missing since Kareem Hunt.

Mahomes is the best-- ever.

It’s maddening that this team can’t pick up 3rd and inches. The OL is said to be one of the top run-blocking units, yet it seems like they fail in short yardage situations constantly.

Yeah. Don’t disagree. But it’s also maddening that we won’t try anything but you up the middle stuff. I mean pitch it to Pacheco and let him beat someone to the corner with his blazing speed. .

I don’t know why they don’t run more pitches in general.

At this point, Mahomes' half-an-ankle would have a better 3rd-and-1 chance.

Henne knows the playbook well but his arm and legs aren't there anymore. Buchelle has both and should be active.....along with Pat and Henne next week.

^ This SOOOOOO much ^

Said this while I was watching the game, Kelce carried the team while Pat was out. You could see the determination in some of his runs after catch that he knew he had to step up when the team needed it.

Have to give honorable mention to Watson and Thornhill. Seemed like both of them had one of their better games of the season.

HemiEd 01-22-2023 07:50 AM

This team came together better and overcame better than any Chiefs team I have ever watched.

Their leader was hurt and they all turned up the wick a notch and did what they could.

Buttkicker was even nails, right down the middle each time.
