ESPN 7 RD MOCK

Chiefs:

Adetomiwa Adebawore, Edge, Northwestern

Based on the defenders the Chiefs have targeted in previous drafts, they highly covet prospects who can generate consistent pressure. Watch Adebawore's performance against Ohio State from last season and you'll see he's capable of that. That game film is what scouts and evaluators bring up when mentioning why he'll be a first-round pick. He didn't have a sack, but he was really solid. Add on running a 4.49-second 40-yard dash at 6-2, 282 pounds, and Adebawore is a unique player who would be a welcome addition to an ascending defense. Adding him to play with George Karlaftis, a first-round pick last season, and recently signed Charles Omenihu would give Kansas City three options off the edge who all are physical run defenders too.

63. Kansas City Chiefs
Gervon Dexter, IDL, Florida

This means the Chiefs are going defensive line with both of their first two picks, as I gave them Adetomiwa Adebawore in Round 1. At 6-6, 310 pounds, Dexter is a towering presence on the inside who would make for an explosive running mate alongside Chris Jones. He fits the Kansas City system well.

95. Kansas City Chiefs
A.T. Perry, WR, Wake Forest

The Chiefs, fresh off a Super Bowl without having a receiver with 1,000 receiving yards, should be searching for targets to add on the perimeter. Perry is a 6-3 receiver who had 81 catches for 1,096 yards and 11 scores last season. Four of those touchdowns came when he was lined up in the slot.

122. Kansas City Chiefs (from MIA): Roschon Johnson, RB, Texas

134. Kansas City Chiefs: Wanya Morris, OT, Oklahoma

166. Kansas City Chiefs: Demarcco Hellams, S, Alabama

178. Kansas City Chiefs (from CHI/MIA): Jay Ward, CB, LSU

217. Kansas City Chiefs*: Shaq Davis, WR South Carolina State

218. Kansas City Chiefs (from CHI/MIA): Will Mallory, TE, Miami

249. Kansas City Chiefs: Dee Winters, LB, TCU

250. Kansas City Chiefs*: Chamarri Conner, S, Virginia Tech

Gervon Dexter is a bit slept on here at CP:

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS

Dexter has the lateral agility and balance to cover two gaps, and Dexter shows some good closing burst when moving down the line in pursuit.

He explodes off the line with a quick first step, with agile feet to counter inside and closing burst to finish plays.

Made Bruce Feldman's Freak's List - ranked #83. He wrote, "This is a huge man who moves well at 6-5 1/2, 313 pounds with 24 percent body fat. Dexter squats 655 pounds and benches 425. “Gervon is a unique body type with an elite mixture of height, length, and muscle makeup,” strength coach Mark Hocke said. “He’s strong enough to hold the point and quick enough to affect the QB, making him an every down QB nightmare.”"
He’s ready for the physicality of the NFL; he has a stout build, strong core, and powerful limbs to step in right away as a three-down player.

He has the heavy hands and upper-body strength to win with power. Dexter drops his weight and anchors well against the run, holding up at the point of attack and capable of occupying double teams.

Good strength and balance to sit down, lock out and create a pile, leading to possibilities inside and out (in the 3-4).

SHAQUAN DAVIS WR 6-5 216 lbs

He looks fast on tape, he's got two years of 800+ yards, he's definitely interesting prospect at that height. That would be 2 tall-fastish WRs in the draft.

Pretty solid mock!

I actually like this one, first 5 picks are high quality additions.

Not as familiar with the others.

DJ's left nut 03-29-2023 08:32 PM

I like Dexter.

Not sure I like him as well in a 4-3 though.

He looks like a Taylor made 3-tech in an odd front to me. Covers a lot of his warts and emphasizes a lot of his strengths.

Couch-Potato 03-29-2023 08:35 PM

He's the guy that makes or brakes this draft IMO

His metrics were pretty incredible at the combine, but he didn't produce in college.

Adebawore
Dexter
Jones
Karlaftis

Could be very solid. I'd probably go with Foskey or White, but Adebawore is right up there too.
