Welp. Not as bad as I was expecting but still doesn't look all that great.

Eh. I'll give the wonky CGI a pass but I'm not going to dig it if they've replaced the unique comedy with generic MCUesque humor, which they unfortunately seem to have done.

Edit: apparently the trailer is using footage from about a year ago so maybe the CGI won't look quite as strange on release.

The trailer looks terrible. Maybe a good sign?

Looking forward to watch it

Yeah. Given the history of Netflix and their prior anime adaptations, wasn't looking forward to this at all. But can already tell this one has been made with more respect and care for the source material and most aspects actually translated over semi decently to live action, Arlong maybe being the only exception.

Also screened THAT scene for Oda (if you know, you know) and he just said it was "perfect."

Looks more and more promising the more material they put out.

Sounds like it's a pretty big hit by most metrics. Most of the problems I personally have with it are pretty easily contributed to Netflix not giving them enough episodes for the content they were adapting. Obviously made with love and respect for the material.

Fantastic 4 Pirates?

Could never get through the first few episodes of the anime, but I binge watched this entire series in one sitting. Was very good and allowed me to start getting through the anime. I think they did a good job of dropping off some scenes that were pointless in the anime, but a few they did that perhaps should have remained.

Holy shit. Not even 2 weeks since release and they've already publicly greenlit season 2 with rumors they've internally greenlit 12.

I have tried 4 times now to get through the first episode. Definately not in my wheelhouse.
Play by play chess would be more interesting to me, but I tried.

To be fair, I don't like even a hint of SciFi.

LMAO It's unapologetically weird as ****. I can get how folks would be turned off by it, but at the very least nobody in the show acknowledged it as weird and everyone operates completely seriously in it. Nobody winks at the camera and breaks immersion.
