The Bears call for Chris Jones.

Hypothetical that I posited in another thread.

I know none of us want to do this, but............

Say the Bears, who have the most cap space in the NFL, call us up.

They offer us a deal.

Bears get:
  • DT Chris Jones
Chiefs get:
  • the lower 2024 1st round pick (Bears control their own pick and Carolina's)
  • DT Gervon Dexter
  • 2024 3rd round pick
  • 2025 5th round pick
That's about in line with what the Dolphins gave up for Tyreek. The 1st round pick will be higher, Dexter is an actual player rather than a hypothetical 2nd round pick that the Dolphins gave us, and a 3rd + a future 5th = the Dolphins' two fourths. Dolphins gave us an additional 6th that I'm not including here.

Who takes the deal?

Poll coming.

We're in a super bowl window and Chris Jones is integral for that.

No, I'm not trading him now. You don't know exactly what the return is at this point. Tag and trade next year.

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-27-2023 08:49 AM

Move the 2nd pick to a 2 and the 3rd pick to a 4 and DEAL

Dunerdr 07-27-2023 09:21 AM

It's a pretty good deal on paper. I guess it really depends on what Jones wants on his end money wise. If we just simply cant afford it, do it. I'd rather have Jones on the team though.

DJ's left nut 07-27-2023 09:22 AM

Hell no.

Unless we get FLOORED by an offer, I'd just ride it out. If he wants to hold out, let him.

This isn't the kind of deal I'd consider unless/until he's on the tag but in order to 'honor' his contract he'll need to play the latter half of the season. Sure, he could go into 'operation shutdown' come playoff time but I don't think he would; that's just not a great look for someone who may have a Hall of Fame shot and who's looking for a 2nd deal that takes him into his 30s. That's gonna hurt his market a fair amount.

This is a SB team right this very minute. Prior to FA when we could've used the found cap to scab over the loss of Jones? Sure - maybe. But any deal for Jones right now would need to be a 'quarterback value' sort of deal or I just play it out and try to get that 3rd ring.

We're looking at possibly appearing in 4 of 5 SBs and winning 3 of those. That's an historic level of dominance. I'd rather have that then what amounts to a handful of draft picks.

I think we've gotten too much in the weeds with the "long term planning, draft picks etc".

We're right in the slot guys. Win 3 out of 5 and go to 4 out of 5 with an overtime loss in the one you missed.

That's.....I mean that's the greatest 5 year stretch in the history of the league....no?

Would be right up there with 2014-18 Patriots , 1974-79 Steelers, 1991-95 Cowboys.

I think it would be neck and neck with the Patriots, ahead of the Cowboys (their non-championship years wouldn't have been as good as ours) and a small step BEHIND the Steelers because 5 years is a bit of an arbitrary endpoint where the Steelers won 4 championships in 6.

But yeah, win this thing and you're an All-Time team.

You don't 'build for the future' when you have that on your racket. Go win; put your name in t he books in bright red ink.

The shit part is, we could very easily be sitting at 4 already right now.

That would give you a chance to really do something special.

There is zero chance the NFL was letting us beat brady in two of the years, it was plain as day during the first afc championship game and then the first 7 minutes of the Super Bowl was plain as day that flags would fly in order to secure a brady win.

The goal is to win Super Bowls.

We have been to three Super Bowls in the past four seasons. We have won 2 Super Bowls.

Trading away the best DT in the game sets us back. The goal is not to accumulate draft picks, its to win Super Bowls. We have the ability to keep Jones and win Super Bowls.

Dunerdr 07-27-2023 02:11 PM

I love Jones, but I could be talked into this trade plus sign Ngokue to replace some rush while Charles moves to dt on rush downs.

What if we’re able to turn both 1st rounders into Brock Bowers?

Now I’m intrigued

alpha_omega 07-27-2023 07:55 PM

No. Hang up the phone when they call.
