Who is the QB2 for the 2024 season?
Gabbert hasn't given us any Henne type moments. In fact... it's been the opposite. I think we can all agree that Gabbert should be a one and done here in KC which means we need a new guy.
As always... you are the GM, what are you gonna do? Seek out a veteran FA with starter experience like (but not limited to): Teddy Bridgewater Gardner Minshew Carson Wentz Mason Rudolph Are we looking at a 5-7th round pick and develop him, while praying Mahomes doesn't go down, like: Spencer Rattler - South Carolina (if he falls) Joe Milton - Tennessee (if he falls) Michael Pratt - Tulane Jack Plummer - Arizona Do you promote from within: Chris Oladokun - Practice Squad Ian Book - Reserves Or... do you go wild: Reach out to the Jets and ask permission to work out a restructuring of his $11m cap hit in 2024 over 3 seasons in a reclamation project of someone extremely talented that went into a horrible situation. Perhaps we get lucky and they would be interested in MVS and it would be a wash (cap wise) for 2024 if we can't sign him longer term at a more reasonable rate. The Jets owner wants Wilson gone as much as I want MVS gone. He has to know he isn't gonna get shit for Wilson after bashing him in the media. |
Oh God please keep Zach Wilson far away from here.
And Minshew I feel like can go into a situation where he's either immediately competing for a job, or sitting behind a shaky starter. Mason Rudolph or Wentz could work, but I'm betting they promote Chris O. |
I don't like any of those options, but I'm sure Andy will find the right one.
Honestly, maybe Oladokun could be QB3 or QB2. Maybe if he shows promise, we could flip him for a decent pick. |

Andy likes the vet backup

Minshew would be a great backup, but he will get a lot more $ than what we would offer him. If Pat had to miss a stretch of games, Minshew would be able to run most of the same offense, effectively. Personally, I’d prefer spending a late round pick one one so it’s cheap for 4 years.

Which QB is about to enter the nursing home? Because that's where Reid likes to look for backups.
I just want someone younger. I feel like Reid can coach a younger veteran up, and Gabbert isn't a very good QB. He never was, except in college. |
It’s going to be Gabbert. He’s got a year in the system now and will play for peanuts, and the Chiefs absolutely love that combination of traits.

Teddy Bridgewater has retired. This is my only contribution to this thread.

We got our 4th Super Bowl on Sunday and you start a thread about who is next year's back up.
Go back to posting GOAT photos. |
Wentz would be a good vet option but I'd rather have Buchele back
|
Minshew is basically the Ryan Fitzpatrick of his generation. He'll go where the situation is unsettled, and he'll end up playing, and doing a pretty good job, but they won't commit to him so he'll go somewhere else.
I like him, but he probably wouldn't want to come and sit behind Mahomes. I'd like to start using QB2 as a spot to develop bonus draft resources. So I'd like to either promote from within ala Oladakun or sign a previous high pick and see if Andy can get them back on track. |
People don't remember this, but there was a time when Henne looked like crap in the preseason and people wanted him gone.
Hell, until he converted 4th and 2 against the Browns, he wasn't doing a very good job in that playoff game, and a bunch of people were upset that we kept him instead of Matt Moore. Andy is probably going to keep Gabbert, guys. And if we need him, I'm sure he'll find a way to Henne himself to glory. |
