My Unpopular Take on Wentz

…. Is that he was ****ed from the start yesterday. No one’s fault really. But hear me out.

At OL, he got three whole snaps from Creed, Thuney, and Trey respectively. Zero from Jawaan obviously.

At RB, he got zero from Hunt or Pacheco.

At WR, he got zero from Hopkins or Hollywood and one from Worthy.

That part is whatever, it was the right call by Reid and the staff. Where Wentz really got shafted is having to go against a good defense that had everything to play for in their house.

There was not a worse opponent to go up against yesterday based purely on circumstances. It’s not like Trubisky who got to face a Patriots team that woulda been happy to lose and pick #1. It’s not like had he played even the Raiders or Chargers yesterday; both teams who had already sealed their respective fates beyond Week 18.

He had to lead that offense against the most motivated defense of all 32 yesterday.

I just think the discussion should be contextualized a little. I’d be thrilled to have him back next year and unfortunately for him now, he may not have much of a choice. But all the finger pointing at him is pretty dumb, IMO. Especially when you factor in he drilled that elbow on a helmet during the first quarter.

I actually totally agree. Really not fair to base much from him or Steele from yesterdays game.

But we did find out Nazeeh Johnson blows goats.

Yeah I was mildly salty yesterday, but I'm over it

This wasn't the game to judge him by

I'm not blaming any of the players. I'm just astonished at how shitty they appeared to look. (I missed the start of the game and the rout was on. I didn't really pay any attention to much detail because it didn't matter)

The Chiefs were playing it like a third preseason game… back-ups playing in mixed matched line-ups with a 100% vanilla gameplan… against a team desperately trying to end a 10 year playoff drought.

Predictable result.

I don't care one single bit about his performance.

Wisconsin_Chief 01-06-2025 03:55 PM

Yeah, they threw him to the wolves, he never had a prayer. All that talk about Andy wanting to help him land a starting gig was clearly just nonsense, not that I think it would have helped. All it did was earn him a league minimum deal to hang out here for anther year.

I kind of feel bad for all the players who had to go out there and basically get their asses kicked with no scheming or game planning on either side. I know a lot of teams rest starters in these situations, but this was really another level. They just came out and literally laid down.

Marcellus 01-06-2025 03:57 PM

No way to judge Wentz based on that game considering who we ran out there.

notorious 01-06-2025 03:59 PM

Who?

Find me the "meh, whatever" que. I was a little shocked some of his plays were so bad. He really short armed some throws where he had a clean pocket.

But I can't find a single **** to give.

morphius 01-06-2025 04:07 PM

My judgment was based on him hitting the target he was aiming for and the fact that he normally missed it. Even when there wasn't pressure. Did I expect him to look great, nope, did I expect him to look like a panicked rookie, no.

InChiefsHeaven 01-06-2025 04:14 PM

The whole team looked like a bunch of guys who really didn't want to be there but were contractually obligated to do so. Getting their shit pushed in by the halfway mark of the first quarter had to be demoralizing for them. Wentz especially.

I hate losing to the Donks, but the Chiefs didn't lose to the Donks. The JV squad from camp at St. Joe did.

Even beyond the starters being benched, the coaching staff clearly wasn't showing anything on either end to a potential playoff opponent in two weeks. There's very little evaluating of any player that could be done considering that.

This. And I think I have fewer ****s to give than you do.

Yep. We always call them meaningless games but in this case, it's 100% literal.
