NfL owners meeting this week. 18 game schedule
NFL owners meeting this week to discuss potential for 18-game regular season
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's campaign to add an 18th game to the regular-season schedule is reportedly set to gain momentum during next week's annual owners meetings. According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, two NFL executives believe schedule expansion talks "will intensify" when the annual meeting talks place in Palm Beach, Florida from March 30 to April 2. Those talks will be part of what is expected to be "more assertive efforts" from Goodell and team owners to talk schedule expansion this summer, according to Robinson. The NFL has an option to opt out of many of its current broadcast deals after the 2029 season. The league could theoretically hope to get more money on a new deal if it can promise networks 18-game seasons after the current collective bargaining agreement expires in March 2031. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...78644b3aaad4a0 |
April Fools!

Not a fan. Remember how tired the Chiefs looked at the end of this season? Now add another game.

Everything I've heard before was an 18 game schedule. Teams get 2 bye weeks. That pushed the Super Bowl to a national holiday Presidents day weekend. Where it should be.
The SB is the largest American celebration of our culture these days, The only event when politics is put aside and we share some BBQ and beers with our neighbors and or friends. It deserves a holiday and a non work day the next day. |

Pushing it to a national holliday weekend with Monday off would be nice. I don't get all hammered for the Superbowl, but generally, by the time the game is over and everyone leaves, it's fairly late. I'm cool with this as along as they spread the bye weeks out fairly, which will be tough to do

Get rid of Thursday Night football.
Give every team two BYE weeks. The 18 game schedule shouldn't happen unless both of the above happen. I can see the league giving two BYE weeks, but unfortunately TNF is here to stay. |

So I assume the cap will go up as a result as well right? Did it go up when we went to 17 games a couple years ago?

Add a game fine, but increase the roster size.

2 pre-season games, 18 regular season. 2 bye weeks. One in first half, one in second half. No more of this bullshit 3 games in 10 or 11 days crap. No more than 2 international games per year, per team. We want our normal 8 home game schedule during regular season (I'm sure season ticket holders would agree). Increase the roster size to 56 players, practice squad to 18. Allow teams to dress 50 on game days instead of 48. Done deal.
(would also like to drop TNF, but as many have stated, that ain't happening) |
