We can argue that some of our coordinators are less than brilliant (and I will), and we can argue about whether our GM is terrible or great (I think he is very good), but specifics aside, the Chiefs are moving in the right direction.

The youth movement is necessary and for a team that hasn’t had much time to gel, they played pretty well together. The obvious areas that this lack of playing time together hurt us were in the defensive backfield and the passing game.

Our DBs have the potential to be one of our strongest units and I feel confidant that we will see consistent improvement here. Grbac has a history of being an accurate passer (especially on the long ball) and with experience throwing to Morris, Alexander, and Locket the timing will get better.

Through no design by the coaching staff, Trich will be moved back to his future Pro Bowl position and we should get a chance to see what Cloud and Moreau (especially Moreau) can do. This realistically could be a Dunn/Alstott type of backfield.

The first part of our schedule is a killer, but we can realistically go into the bye week 2-3 or 3-2! By the middle of October this team will be playing much better ball and with the remainder of our schedule, winning the division is certainly not out of the question.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll get hot just in time for the playoffs?!…
I do like the idea of a youth movement in KC, but I want to see it at QB and RB with young freaks!

I just saw Indy's toys, and now I want a few!

WHAT YOUTH MOVEMENT!?!?!?!

We have a TOTAL of ONE starting Rookies on our team. ONE: Greg Wesley.

Warfield is a THIRD YEAR PLAYER.

There is no 'youth-movement' - that's a load of CP's tripe. Don't buy into it, because it just isn't true.

htismaqe 09-05-2000 08:16 AM

HC,

We have ten starting players with two years or less experience.

This is younger than the Chiefs have been since I bought my season tickets 12 years ago.

I suggest that you need to stop buying into Whitlock's hype (he's the only one I've seen arguing this).

Luz
give Moreay the ball (more youth)...

Fat Homer 09-05-2000 08:24 AM

Luz - I did not know Whitless the Hut has talked about this (I try not to read his crap). However, I would have to agree with him for once.

How many carries did Moreau have? 2? How many did Cloud have? 2? How many plays was Morris in? 5? 6?

The ONLY consistent use of young players: Tait & Wesley. The rest of our starters were at least 3-year vets... or older.

There is no 'youth movement'

AustinChief 09-05-2000 08:28 AM

HC,

Here's something for you. You're wrong.

Wesley played almost every down. Pat Dennis probably saw significant playing time as the nickel back. Morris played alot. That's 3 more rookies playing than we've had since Marty got here. That's already a drastic improvement.

What I was disappointed in was that Moreau came out and busted for 12 yards on his first carry. GIVE HIM THE ****ING BALL!!!

Right Luz?

Why not keep doing what works?

ht, Luz - I think you're misunderstanding me... or I'm not coming across correctly. Yes, we used a couple of new guys on an intermittent basis... I do not, and cannot deny that fact. However, starting ONE rookie on D, and shuffling a couple of rookie/second year players does NOT constitute a "Youth Movement". I don't see how anyone could think otherwise. Make more sense? http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/smile.gif

redbrian 09-05-2000 09:53 AM

I'm all for a youth movement, as long as it's also a QUALITY movement.

I still wanna see it at QB and RB. Maybe Moreau can take care of the HB part.

I think Raye is rapidly taking himself out of the equation as we speak.

HC,

I was under a different impression. I agree with some of what you're saying... put Morris and Moreau in there and leave them there (correct ht), and I'm also disappointed that they're not getting more time.

I do think, however, that this is the direction we're going and I'm all for it. I don't want youth for the sake of youth, but I want to SEE our players develop on the field.

Call me crazy, but I believe Gun when he says these kids will see more and more playing time.

i also read some stats confirming that our ave age (53 man roster) is lower than it's been in years...

Has there been an official statement from the Chiefs that:

1) We are on a youth movement, or
2) We are in a rebuilding phase

I haven't heard such an official announcement from TPTB. Please tell me where I can find such a statement from the Chiefs...
Fat Homer 09-05-2000 10:28 AM

Fly - I don't know of any 'official statement' by the organization. CP and Co. have implied a move towards young players - see release of Rison due to "wanting to work younger players into the mix...".

From there, I think the media grasped onto the idea of a non-existant 'youth movement', and CP & Co. have played along.

htismaqe 09-05-2000 01:28 PM

I think we're talking about different things.

When you hear youth movement you think rebuilding at the cost of this season (at least).

When I (and I believe Gun/CP) talk about the youngest team we've had in quite a while I think they mean just that. We're playing younger players faster and letting some of them learn on the field.

No where has sacrificing this season or choosing youth over competitiveness been mentioned.

Luz
wanting youth, and also wanting to win...

Fat Homer 09-05-2000 01:32 PM

I just hate the term "youth movement" -- it implies a concerted effort to replace old players with young players at the majority of positions (both O and D). That is simply not the case in KC. What we are doing is giving the rookies some playing time for once. That would be considered "normal" by NFL standards: you draft players, you use them. We have become so accustomed to parking draft picks on thwe bench for a year or two, that the moment we actually play one or two, we're shocked and amazed by a 'sudden influx of youth'.
